Re: Deeper sound from 5" snare?

Well FYI the G14 has really done it for me. It has the general feel of a G1 but more attack, more lows, far less ring and a wide range of dynamics. Really sits between the 2 ply and single camps....

Re: Deeper sound from 5" snare?

The PS3 didn't work on this one for me. It didn't remove enough ring, just kind of shifted the overtones around and seemed less sensitive.

But in a surprise twist I picked up an old 6.5" maple...

Re: Deeper sound from 5" snare?

Ya starting to see that I may have to explore different snare drums altogether.

I'm definitely going to try the popsicle stick!

I ordered a G14 as it sounds lower in all the videos. With 40%...

    Deeper sound from 5" snare?

Hey all, this is an offshoot from my other thread where I've been struggling with ring.
I'll give quick background then ask questions and let you all have at it:

    -Started with HD Dry, sounds...

    Snare ring & Mic Placement

Hey all, I'm struggling to figure out mic placement here, hoping you can help:

I have a hammered bronze snare with G1 and have been dialing in the tuning for months.

    Without going into ALL...

    Tube lug question

Hey all, I use a PDP snare with 1 3/8" (35 mm) hole spacing on the lugs. Lately I thought about changing them due to some rods sticking and the hideous ovals. Then I discovered that nobody sells 1...

Re: Newbie tries die cast hoops

Hey with all due respect I know a load of drummers who keep time by bashing stuff... that doesn't qualify as making music tho. I only know a handful who sing through their kit however... For sure...

    Newbie tries die cast hoops

So I have this PDP bronze snare that I dig but have struggled a bit to get the most out of it. I messed with tuning ad nauseum, different heads and snare wires. It gives a nice quick, sensitive...

Re: Can a snare stand affect sound?

My best guess is the plastic ball could be dampening slightly as the metal parts are decoupled? But even then, it's only the energy reflecting back into the shell that would be affected.

Can a snare stand affect sound?

Let me start by saying that I know how newbish this question sounds.

I had been using a double braced Trak stand that really had nothing wrong with it except it was moving around on me (toward my...

    Re: Solder for snare wires?

Thanks for your input guys, it's much easier than you're making it sound! I have enough skills whether torch or soldering iron, I'm doing this for sure. Just wanted to see if anyone knew the right...

    Solder for snare wires?

Let's say you were inclined to experiment with snare wires the DIY route. What solder would one use to attach them to the plates? I'm not taking about re-soldering a single wire that came off but...

I've actually heard of some real life drama that was not far from the events in the movie. Some real SOB profs out there with a God complex who abuse their power and students who don't want to...

    Re: My snare needs something...

Man, I got some time to really tune it in and frankly it was pissing me off! I somehow got one lug way too high and never noticed or heard it. I took the reso off and started from scratch. I decided...

    Re: My snare needs something...

    Will definitely try that!

Since that post earlier today, I wanted more fatness so brought the tuning lower on the reso but here's what I don't get:
I tune one head up, I tune one head down. I...

Ok I think I got it figured out. Without meaning to, I had cranked my reso head past a reasonable tension and it was choking. I backed off and things are making more sense. The P3 head seems to...

    Re: My snare needs something...

Thanks guys. This afternoon I brought the tuning up higher on both heads (more on the batter) because it was already as low as I thought safe. It actually reduced the whine quite a bit. I've had this...

    My snare needs something...

So I bought this used PDP hammered bronze snare a while back (14x5). I got it mainly because it was a real phosphor bronze shell at a ridiculous price $130 cdn +tax (~$100 US). I was tired of my...

    Re: Hats won't sit straight

No, definitely don't want "perfect" straightness, they were just WAY off when I started this thread. I shoulda taken a pic... Got a piece of heat-shrink tubing on the post of the cup, helps a little...

    ^^ Good one N2Bluz

The post of the bottom hat (cup) measures 0.449" FWIW.

I went and ordered one of these:

    Hats won't sit straight

Hey guys, I just grabbed 2 pairs of hats last week: HHX Groove hats and Diril Primitive 15s. Anyway, the Dirils are always sloppy in how they close and I noticed they never sit one on top of the...
