Thanks. My only apprehension is that I love the music we play, and that's usually not the case. I've ended up playing in many bands where the musicians are great, and nice, but I don't like the song...
I'm playing in a blues band now that is pretty good and I love the music we're playing.
In general, we all get along pretty well. However, I recruited a bass player 2 years ago that I've played...
I've always put my set lists on the floor next to me during gigs, which works fine most of the time. But, if it's too dark or the lights are shining in my eyes, I have difficulty seeing it.
I'd...
Thanks, Tom. Upon checking out the tension of the snare-side head, I realized I'd already cranked it tight (which is what I do). I actually loosened the snare-side head a little (about 1/4 turn...
I have a Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute kit that I purchased new in 1999. The build quality, look and sound are excellent. I'll never sell them.
I have a Yamaha Recording Custom brass snare (13.5 x 6) and am considering replacing the snare wires. The drum is like new, so the original wires are in perfect condition.
However, when comparing...
I don’t like the quick-lock mounts either. I know they’re supposed to move around to maximize resonance, but I prefer everything to be more stationary.
Awesome snare!! But, how do you avoid mangling sticks when you hit rim shots on those claw hooks and lug nuts that are higher than the rims? The look is fantastic!!
In my never-ending search for snares, I'm considering a few that have claw hooks on the rim. Very cool look, but I'm wondering if those get in the way for rim shots. Also, I noticed the lug nuts are...
Just scored a DW Collectors kit in black oyster glass. 20/10/12/14 maple. As a mostly Tama guy, I've been very impressed by this kit.
Had my first band rehearsal and received very good feedback...
I'm unable to post pictures here. I used to have photobucket, but have elected not to pay for their service. I do pay for MS OneDrive, but that's not working here. I also tried linking to Flickr...
I bought a birch/bubinga Tama Starclassic kit in Molten Brown Burst. Trying to post pictures, but that's not working out ...

You're right that I'm biased toward the SC bubinga. But, I already have 2 SC kits and should try to broaden my horizons. I like the saturn iv exotic maple burl (with walnut) kit more than expected....
I’ve not checked out Armory’s yet, but they do sound and look great.
I checked out a used Saturn iv kit today and loved it. The 20” kick was louder than I expected but I think I prefer a 22” still...
I found a great deal on Starclassics Bubinga kit. Not my first choice on color, but very nice, and reasonably priced. This kit will sound awesome and be easier to sell if or when I'm ready.
Also...
Thanks. I am very interested in the Pearl Masters...
I'm thinking used, primarily, and my budget is a max of about $1000. At the moment, my top choice is a Mapex Saturn kit in natural burl. Great looking kit, but I've never played one. I've gone...
Thanks, I've not considered Ludwigs but will definitely research the Ludwig CMs now.
Yes, and I think especially the older models "made in mexico" that eventually became part of the official DW line.
During the past year, I picked up a pdp 13x7 maple / walnut snare (wanted the...
I sold my Gretsch Renown maple kit a few months ago and am thinking of getting another kit.
I'm toying with the idea of a Mapex Saturn (iv or v), but also thinking about a pdp cx, platinum or x7....
Still loving the new pdp 13x7, but I couldn’t resist and ended up buying a PDP Eric Hernandez 13x5 piccolo snare.
Black maple shell with gold hardware and hoops. Great punchy side snare for funk...
I’ve never considered anything other than roc n soc nitro.
There was a lock washer, which should keep it in place, but I will keep an eye on it.
So, I was playing my brand new PDP snare tonight and heard this strange rattle sound that seemed a stretched snare wire. Upon turning the drum upside down to inspect, I noticed a nut and washer...
