    My thought is; it's not as if there are no crash/rides out there that sound good for both riding and crashing but that they are probably few and far between. Otherwise, you would hear more positive...

    Same here. With the exception of one Zildjian K I use for light jazz, most cymbals that double as crash/ride just don't work. I've always thought of it as a gimmick.
