Re: I found a cheap "decent sounding ride"

Smart move. No reason to mile-up your Zildjians with newb abuse lol.

    Re: How annoying...

For meeting/buying anything of higher $ value on craigslist if possible choose a Walmart with a bank inside or next door. You can suggest this by saying that you don't like carrying cash anymore,,,or...

Not just the playing, but also the sound-quality on South Of Heaven has made me a lifelong fan of Dave's,,,,,,,,,,not to mention a great first name too.

Nothing to do with all that "bull riding" you had her practicing at home? :icon_mrgreen:

    Re: Best Ride Cymbal

The slightly older Zildjian 21" Rock Rides have amazing bells, same size as the 22" of the same era. Mine sounds almost identical to a boxing/fight bell.
I tried many rides and haven't found a bell...

    Re: Snare Stand Advice

I went with the Tama road-pro-lo myself, and road-pro booms also. Hard to beat for the medium $.

    Re: Carcass Heartwork drum cover

Yeah, very true. I'm the same way with Slayer having first got into S.O.H. it's my go-to if I get into a classic speed/thrash mood, which definitely makes me an oddball of a slayer fan. Next would be...

    Re: Mic stand for 52A

Yeah they both look good for the stated reasons.
The weighted base would be good to have close if a wild fight broke out, but then again it's hard to play drums if you're in jail lol.

Re: What kind of music do you play?

Metal and rock exclusively at this point.

I'm more of a groove-based power-beat guy for now, since that's all that really feels natural starting out, and since I don't have a double-bass pedal...

    Re: Carcass Heartwork drum cover

Awesome! I've been wondering how many/few "heavy" metal guys we have on here.
I'm kind of so-so on Heartwork, but Necroticism is one of my all-time favorite metal albums ever.

    Re: Mic stand for 52A

These would work well. I have one for miking guitar cabs and combos.
I'm bad about over-tightening things and it's lasted me many years with no problems. Very rugged with a heavy base.

Re: What music are you listening to?

Just listened to "war" and "training montage" from the Rocky IV soundtrack. Holy crap that's powerful stuff!!!
  15. Re: Spending crazy money on your secondary instrument...

I'll be dead or broke before I could ever spend as much on drums/cymbals as I have on guitar gear over the past three decades lol.

    Re: Opinions, please.

You might actually have an easier time getting the foot-pressure just right by going to a "mastersound" bottom hat.
I'm new and only familiar with the Zildjian products, but "mastersound" is what...

Re: Hard time keeping Superstar Classics in tune...

Even star-cast might not be too bad if one runs the toms fairly flat, but if you like some good angle then all the weight and all the bounce while playing just contributes to lugs backing out, not to...

Re: Tandem Hi Hats. Check this out !

Very cool. Learn something new everyday, and often it's these kind of "should be obvious" things that are the greatest.

Since I'd like to have the whole lower-pair's top open for play, then I...

    Sticky: Re: Zildjian Cymbals

I'm a big fan of brands doing something different with their entry-level logo/brandings.

For instance; If you see a guitar that says ESP on the headstock, then you know it's the real deal because...

Re: Hard time keeping Superstar Classics in tune...

Do all the drums go out often, or just the mounted toms?
I personally don't think hoop-mount (star-cast) is a good idea, but what does a rookie know anyway? lol
    My superstar custom mounted toms...

Just curious where you get the foam?

These guys have great deals but I've never compared the "quality" with the stuff from music outlets. I'm guessing it's all the same stuff...

Re: Double Bass Pedals and Beater Selections

Tried an Evans HW with a patch added?
Probably too dull-sounding with felt beaters (is for me), but with a hard surface beater they sound great like that IMO. Depends on music style of course.
