    Eventually the use of the bounce control takes over wih speed. You need the control for slower triplets and rolls.

    Oak vs maple? I'd think the oaks that you have would have a deeper sound(?) or fundamental no matter the heads with similar tuning/tension than the maples, especially if the maples are NOT N....

    Tried moving them apart? Or maybe retuning the 12” as others have suggested.
    Playing live it may not be noticeable. Have you tried the “here comes the bride” tuning approach?

    Backrests between songs are great but they do allow for some slouching during play which can be bad, making you reach more than you should.

    I've had some luck by cutting a 2" port in the batter(PS3 I think) to let some boominess out without using a ported reso..
