    Sticky: Re: Mapex Drums Discussion

I saw there were additions to the BP snares & a new Armory snare.

The Black Panther Design Lab series:

The new Armory Series Sabre Snare is 14x5.5, with a 6.15mm Maple/Walnut Hybrid (7-Ply)...

    Re: Mapex VX assistance please.

Yep, the VX & V are basswood.
I've got a VXB and the B signified that there's Birch in there too. It also has the ISO mounts. It's a great sounding kit tbh.

It's a Black Panther. 'Nuff said!
They're all excellent drums, and at that price & condition it's a steal.

    Re: Versatile snare around £250

There's a couple of Mapex Black Panther Blades on ebay at the moment at around the £100 mark. I got one earlier this year for £70 & it was in almost perfect condition. Great steel snare, especially...

As a side note to this, Michael changed his name professionally to Mike McGear and sang with The Scaffold, who had a hit with Lily The Pink.

    Carry on.

    Re: Kit to gig with........

You can pick up a Mapex M Birch for around the £200 mark. That would meet your needs perfectly.
  9. Re: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions... Choosing a Snare and maybe more - Part II

They're only called Popsicles in North America (I had to look it up to find out what one was!).
The rest of the world calls them Ice Lollies.

Got to play out with the Armory last night for the first time. We played support to an all girl band (the same ones as last year) at a fantastic venue nearby. It was a 1920's ballroom in an Art Deco...

Re: Show Us Your Snare Drums

I sold my Mapex BP Panther last year as I didn't really play it - it was just too heavy(& I mean ridiculously heavy) to cart around to practice & gigs.
I've regretted it ever since TBH, and have...

I'm afraid I don't Weezy. Looking at their website I see they're near Darlington, so about 90 miles or so from me. Certainly make some nice looking drums.

He was very popular in the 70's & 80's and had around 20 top 40 hits, including a couple that got to number 1.

I'd have to say that this was more popular & well known over here. "Billy Don't Be A Hero" was by far their bigger hit in the UK, though probably not in the US.
