A trick we use in studios to get a nice top end click on the bass drum sound is to tape a large coin to the bd skin where the beater hits it.

I tend to boost the treble and bass slightly and cut out some mid to get a good bass drum sound.

Actually the Zild ZBT hi hats have a very clear cutting "chick" they sound pretty good for the money. Not much other body in them tho.
