Re: Kit you've had the longest?

I suppose that would be my Tama Swingstar kit from the late ‘80’s. It’s a vintage T badge, made in Japan. It was the first kit I played in a band, and belonged to the guitar player who was a good...

    Re: Nightmare room Saturday night

Yep, I been there too. Probably the worst was actually outside on a downtown street. They had us face across the street. The sound was bouncing back & forth between the buildings on both sides. No...

    Re: Radioface - Pat Travers

You seriously did a great job. I’d say that’s the best I heard from both you and your band yet. Looks like everything is falling into place!

Nice. I can really tell you guys keep improving and getting tighter. I really hate it when bars have live bands and don’t turn off the TV’s. Just a pet peeve of mine....

Re: What kind of car do you guys own?

Luckily, this Sable was never advertised. I asked my neighbors what they were doing with it, cause I saw it parked in their garage all winter. They told me the story and said they were planning on...

    Re: Craiglist Tom Angles enjoyment.

I’d be all over this if the price was right ($400-$500). Looks like vintage Ludwig shells in great shape.

Just bought this ‘99 Mercury Sable for my wife from our next door neighbor for $2600. It belonged to their elderly mother who is 85 and quit driving. It only has 83,000 original miles and she...

Re: Newbe to Snare & Hi-Hat

    My personal opinion;
I think a 12” metal snare would be too bright for my taste in Jazz. If I were to start from scratch, I’d say a 14” wood snare...preferably mahogany or maple. I’d go triple...

    Re: Things not to do.

We have those here in NE as well. They like to hang out in closets, basements and garages. I’ve never seen one myself, but I know of several people that have been bitten. Not life threatening, but it...

    Re: Curious...

If I was gonna specifically pick a snare collection, those are the ones I’d choose. Except for maybe the Mapex....not that it’s bad, it’s just not one I’d pick.
  14. Re: Best way to use 2, identical floor toms in a 1 up 2 down set up?

Different heads is a brilliant idea. Maybe a single ply for the higher pitch and 2-ply for the lower.

    Re: Hardware bag alternative

That’s exactly what I used to do with my H&B rolling bag (the blanket thing). It worked, but I hated getting down on my knees after a gig to pack it. Also the time it took. That said, it would have...

    Re: Hardware bag alternative

Yes...but kinda depends on the stand. I have a DW 6000 hi-hat stand, and it easily holds it. BUT, it’s possible that a real bulky/heavy-duty stand may not fit....I’ve never tried it with anything but...

    Re: are these cymbals giggable?

Definitely. I owned a full set of PST7’s. They’re made from 2002 bronze. They actually cut very well. The PST7 hats sound as good or better than most anything pro-level. The crashes, not so...

Re: MDK's revolving drum kits saga continues.

Smart move. I’m the same. All my drum/band purchases are financed by gig money. It’s as much my decision as anyone’s. I keep the “hobby” purchases out of the household finances for my own peace of...

  20. Re: Best way to use 2, identical floor toms in a 1 up 2 down set up?

Chances are, if any of them tuned any of their toms to the “best sound” they could get out of them, then they probably ended up at the fundamental pitch of the shell without realizing it..or even...
  21. Re: Best way to use 2, identical floor toms in a 1 up 2 down set up?

My Ludwig kit has a 14 FT and a 16FT. The few times I actually set them both up, the 16 was used to hold my beer and cell phone. It did it effectively...while looking cool on stage.

    I think I have 7 or 8, but I only really use 3;
    1) 13x7 Pork Pie COS on my practice kit
    1) 13x6 Supralite for small venue gigs
    1) 14x8 Supralite for large venue/outdoor gigs.
    The rest just...

I remember gigging with my first Tama kit and using the old fiberboard cases. Didn’t use anything for the stands, just fold ‘em and toss ‘em. Eventually, I even quit putting the shells in cases....

    Re: Charlie Watts

I believe Charlie actually uses a vintage Slingy Radio King kit when he tours in Europe. He has a friend over seas that lets him borrow it. That way he doesn’t have to ship his Gretsch.
