i think i said it in another thread, but what im doing is playing a few chosen rudiments:
i like to think my 1 hour training a day contains 3 sections;
[1]-the basics of the basics
[2]-paradiddle...
i think you should focus on 1-1 2-2 3-3 4-4 paradiddle in all forms and basic flam based rudiments first. at least thats what my teacher gave me to practice every day since i started taking lessons...

you have to practice and let your muscle memory build, there is no way around that.

i asked my friend to show me some drumming excersice out of curiousity so he showed me a paradiddle
and i kept doing paradiddles on my chest for like an hour
man u shouldnt feel bad for playing e-kit or a pad. when im on a bus listening to my music and air drumming, ok thats pretty retarded, but you'll never be a great drummer without practicing on a pad....

i think u should keep using your current set to improve for a while, dont be in a rush to get a new one when you're so new to drumming
