I agree good sticks are the way to go, but if you do buy cheap sticks, you can tape them up before you use them and they will last a lot longer.

I'd say definitely do it. I took the wrap off of my drums like six months ago and just spray painted them and they turned out well.

I do not use cases. Personally I am okay with nicks and scratches on my drums, I think they give them some character and as long as I am pretty careful with the drums, none of the damage is too bad.

It is the dancing, people need something strong to latch onto and digital does make that easier to do as well as allowing the vocalist to interact more with the crowd. That's pop for you.
