Re: Conga, etc going out of style?

Well I have 3 sets of congas and want to learn. I know the basics, but need to just get out and learn and play and grow. It's a shame that I'm dressed up and no place to go. In rural South Carolina.

Conga, etc going out of style?

Are the congas and latin percussion instruments going out of style? There is not much here on this site, and nuthin going on around either. I think this genre is fizzling out? Any thoughts?

What do you think about the hickory 50th anniverary LP drums? Any better than the siam oak/rubber? How do they compare with Ash?

Re: Going to change skins soon

Now that that the first part has been done, my drums are waiting to dry!

My question now is: Is it bad, normal, minor problem if the skins have a slight 'lip' to them (over tight?). Also, how much...

Re: Going to change skins soon

Sometimes, depending on the congas and thickness of the skin, the lugs can be too short to get a nut on them when tucking. I went to the hardware store and bought a couple of long J-bolts to use for...

Re: Looking to Start Out the Right Way

    Hey Neurotic,

My follow up question to you is- why don't the drums you have suit a learner? That is a great combo. Also, it depends upon what are you looking to play- salsa, rumba, etc?
