Re: Greatest Drummer of All Time?

Check out Antonio Sanchez solo on the live version of "The Gathering Sky." by The Pat Metheny Group. He gets 4 different counterpointal clave rhythms going...just 'cause he can.
    He's extremely high...

Re: Looking at upgrading double pedals

Boy I'd like to test fly a set of MDDs!!! I learned on Speed Kings in the mid 60s. I exclusively buried the beater in those days and the direct drives were superb for that technique.
    When I started...

Make no mistake, he looks like someone I would steer clear, keep a wary eye on, and be prepared to do literal battle with at the drop of the proverbial hat. And I pride myself on being an exceptional...

Re: Huge life changing move to Florida!

Thumbs up MDK. Fla is weird. It seems like you largely have the choice of little stucco cubes packed in beside each other, gated communities of much more expensive homes with a million...

Re: Huge life changing move to Florida!

Not really off topic...speaking of summer in New England: I mentioned in my post above that I moved to northern NH when I retired... Ricardo brings up July in NE... I sit on my deck/porch during the...

Re: Huge life changing move to Florida!

Well we'll be sorry to see you go MDK!
You may not want to read my take on your dilemma. HA!
I'm the opposite to you in that I moved NORTH when I retired in '17. From near Keene to Columbia up near...

    Re: This is perseverance!

Many of us went through that period of drum dreams. In my case it was sending for, or going to Hermie's Music in Scenectady, NY to get Ludwig, Rogers, and maybe Slingerland catalogs. I lived in those...

    Re: OT: RIP Chick Corea

Saw RTF with both Alphonse and Lenny. I think I slightly preferred Lenny, but not by much!

I like at least one cymbal with rivets to mask and or compliment my brand of tinnitus!

    Sticky: Re: PDP Drums Discussion

Why the pitch bend on the twelve? Is that your "go to" or preference?
  13. Re: My son's drum heads continue to tear on his new kit?

I'd agree that wrong, as in too steep, stick angle is the most usual suspect. That and poor quality heads as stated. I suppose you could run your finger around the bearing edge, the rim of the drum...

    Re: Favorite or preferred snare

I currently play a dw Edge. It's a 14" X 5". It's just about a perfect snare in my opinion. Metal edges with a maple shell. I once had a Supraphonic and it was hard to find fault with that one either.

Too bad about the tension rod splay. Good thing those receivers float! Beautiful metal though.

    Re: Building a Drum Room

Soundproofing, is different than interior room sound treatments... as you know. The only way to sound proof is with mass and how said mass is arranged. There are super dense "panel/matts" made of...

Re: Upside down China with rivets

I've got an old 20" Zildjian "Pang" cymbal I bought in the mid 70s. It's interesting but doesn't get much use anymore. I am planning to install rivets and will orient them for "upside down" playing...

    Re: Building a Drum Room

Be careful how many panels you install. Start by not buying too many. It's easy to deaden a room too much. My basement studio has large expanses of poured concrete walls covered with three layers of...

Re: Snuck this home... PDP Classics

Yes I was fond of frequently activating that acrylic 18". My Collectors 16" X 14", however, delivers all the thunder I need.

Re: Snuck this home... PDP Classics

What's your take on the 18" FT and especially the wooden hoops? I have an 18 in my fibes kit and always loved it. Rumbly but dramatic.
I do a lot of rim shots even on toms to a degree... I'd be...

    Re: Building a Drum Room

You may need an auxiliary snare storage area elsewhere with but a small rack holding the current "rotation" inside the room.

Re: Thomas Pridgen on Movie Drum Scenes

That flick was so over the top it's ridicules. The playing was good but the premise that anyone would or could behave the way J. K. portrayed the teacher is a bit much.

    Re: Small Crashes Anyone?

My main crashes are 16" and 18". A 14" Zildjian Effects holy/slotted one, a 16" China Boy High and three splashes sprinkled about the set. Yeah, I like 'em short and sweet. A smack in the kisser. I...
