    Mapex MPX Maple Snare

I have been on the lookout for a deep snare. Found one to try, and it came in today. 8X14 Mapex. Yep, thats right, 8 inches deep. 10 lug. What a cannon! The only thing I did was put on a Remo...

Spaz, I feel that if a drummer isn't excited to get behind the kit, they just need to sell it to someone who is!

    Home Again

    The Ludwigs are back home!

I have not been able to play since early April due to a herniated disc in my lower neck, which caused my right hand, fingers, wrist and forearm up to my elbow to go...

    Cymbal Weight

Having starting over after a very long layoff a few years ago, I was wondering about the use and purpose of cymbal weights in grams. I never really never even considered the weight of the cymbal in...

    Re: Finding the Right Ride

ZIldjian A 21" Sweet Ride is one of the best and most versatile rides I have used. It is crashable, if needed, great bell, has a bit of a wash while riding, but thats one thing I like about it. ...

    Re: Effect of Room Acoustics

Playing a gig one night in a bar new to the band. Go in, set up, did the sound check on the drums, everything sounds great. (We usually do our own sound.)

Started on the full band sound check....

    Re: Price of gear skyrocketing

I just got to post. Used 1967 WMP Ludwig Super Classics, with 20" Med ride and 18" Thin crash and 14" hi-hats, Paiste 602 cymbals, and all hardware, hard fiber cases for all the drums and a trap...

Re: The Triple (not baseball related)

Since I have 2 old Speed King's, does that mean I can play 16th note triplets too? I really do like to think of myself as a manly man.

Speaking of covers, has anyone heard Train's cover of Zepplen II? I was totally taken by surprise by this one.

    Re: Speed King

I was not as clear about the problem as I should have been. What I meant by thickness is actually the depth of the rim. Old rims were deeper, and when mounted on newer rims, the pedal makes contact...

I got a really good deal on a vintage Speed King. In great shape, ready to use. No problem? Right? Well, when it came in, I found it was the old version that is made for the thicker bass drum...

    Re: Hi-hat stands around $100?

Might be a little more than a $100.00, but the Mapex Armory Hi Hat stand was a really pleasant surprise for the price. A good, solid stand, in my opinion. Very underrated.
  15. Re: Anyone have experience with Mapex Meridian Maple set?

I, too, have the Meridian Maple 5 piece "Big Rock" kit. The 20x22 kik is outstanding. Big sound. Any dummer who see and hears this set loves it. For the money, it's a best buy, for sure. I have...

    Re: Audix FP 5 set

I use the F series mic's on my kit. Would have loved to have been able to get the D series, but for 60% of the price, you get 80% of the performance. Not a bad trade off at all, in my opinion.

    I...

    Re: One sided drums

My thoughts on the 1-sided drums are from back in the 70's. Back then, we tried to copy the studio sound of the drums. That tended to sound dry and boxy. You didn't want any ring at all, because...

Is there a difference in playing "on top" of the beat and pushing the tempo? I try to stay on top, a steady tempo, but just a fraction ahead. Gives a different feel, in my opinion.
