    Re: transient ischemic attack (TIA)

Hi man, sorry for your recent TIA. I know things suck right now, but they will get better. I've been a RN for a long time, and if you're going to have a stroke, this would be the one to have. Sounds...

    Re: Medical issues and drumming

Because I was stupid when I was much younger, I am now sporting 5 herniated discs in my neck. Three are moderate. Two are severe. Two motorcycle accidents didn't help much either. Anyways, I get the...

    Re: pet peeves (drum-related)

My pet peeves? I have two. 1) The drummer that talks about his gear like it's the best ever made, and compares it to mine. In this case, he was talking about his entry level Tama kit and compared it...

    Using different weight drumheads

I read a post at some other forum about using different weight heads for different tom sizes. For example, an Evans G1 on an 8" tom, Evans G12's on 10" and 12" toms, and Evans G14's on the 14" and...

Re: Never too old to play drums

Here's my take on the age issue. I'm 52 and play in a high energy rock cover band. Possibly, the best group of musicians I've had the pleasure of working with. All of these guys are mid 40's and...

Re: Dare you respond to this thread?

As a young player, I was more interested in looking good, than sounding good. I set my gear up akin to whatever the current trend was, and was more interested in how hard and loud I could play....

    Re: Rack tom miking...

The sound guy is also a drummer, so he played them a bit for me after he set them up.

    Rack tom miking...

Hello all, I have a question regarding mic placement for rack toms. Recently at a gig, I was fortunate enough to have a sound tech that ran mics, monitors, etc. for the entire band. Made my setup...
  10. Re: Do you try to buy sets with a virgin kick, or do you care?

I've tried both and didn't notice any difference. My preference is mount a 10 and 12 inch rack tom on the BD. That's how I learned to play way back when, and I'm sticking to what works best for me.

    Re: Reducing overtones with tape?

I use Green Gizmo Goo. Similar to Moongels, but doesn't leave a residue on my coated heads. Also use it sparingly and according to situation. If I'm miking my kit, I'll use it, if no mics then I let...

    Question for the Tama guys.

Did Tama make a Rockstar Pro in a blue lacquer finish? I've looked high and low for pics of one with zero luck. I'm hoping someone here knows.
    Thanks...

    Kick drum mic'ing

    Hello all,
Would like to get some feedback on the Audix D6 mic, and the Kelly Shu internal drum mount. I'm currently using an AKG D112, kick drum has an Aquarian SK2 batter head, Evan E3 reso...

    Re: Going Against "Norms"

I'm not sure if I go against norms, or go against trends. It seems trendy now to have small toms set up relatively flat. I see it everywhere, and when someone new to drumming post pics of their kit...

Re: Hi hats 13" or 14"?

Actually, the hats are only 1/2" further away. The other 1/2" is on the other side of the hats.

Re: Hi hats 13" or 14"?

I use both sizes actually. On my left I'll use either Zildjian 13" New Beat hats, or Sabian 13" AA Fusion hats. On the right, since I like the right side hats a little deeper/darker, either Sabian...

    Anything other than Moongel?

There are times, when micing my kit up close, I like to use Moongel to control some of the overtones. The one drawback is that it sometimes, not always, leaves a blue stain on my coated heads. Is...
