For the record, I love my Sonor 3007's to death. :)
Rudiments are all pretty much varying combinations of single and double strokes. I do tons of rudiment-y workouts, but I don't have a clue what they're all called outside of a paradiddle and what my...
I hate DW.
the perforamcne series is pure win, IMO.
Pork Pie Big BOB. The shell used for it has BEATEN the Black Beauty in blind listening tests before, and it's about 1/3 the price.
I have one, and I adore everything about it.
EDIT: I should...
Yes and no. It really screws up recording attempts because I go bananas whenever I hear minor issues.
Here's an even better one for ya. Check out the snare!

For preliminary recording, I agree, bass or rhythm. I've got a couple guitar tracks laying around that I literally can't do anything with because they have no structure or sense to them. At least...
I haven't heard the 1007's, but with the right heads I doubt you'll be disappointed. Sonor's quality is fantastic.
Iron Cobra Power Glide, with Cobra Coil. DEVASTATING.
I coulda sworn I read somewhere someone trying "upside-down" head setups, like with g1 atop g2 or Pinstripes as a reso and Ambassadors for the batter.
Yamaha Oak, anyone?
Do you plan on using this for recording or just live sound? That'll make an ENORMOUS difference.
Are you on a PC or a Mac?
If a Mac, I'd say either Logic Studio or Presonus Studio One.
If a PC, Studio One.
I'm slowly losing my taste for over the top drum kits. I'm never going to be enamored with the ultra-minimal four piece kits with three cymbals, but those gigantic monstrosities are just...

I'm of the belief that you should go for the smallest pad you can. It's a practice pad. Use it to work on speed AND control. Keep all your hits in a tiny area.
That goes double if you use a snare...
My red Vater 6" pad is about as close as I could hope for, works great and I love it.
The first coated CS I got looked like that after a couple hours. I bought a Controlled Sound X and it's holding up much better.
The coating on Remo heads comes of super quickly, particularly snare heads. Happened for me on two CS's, plus an Emp X.
It doesn't move that much, and certainly not enough to make a difference in the sound. The whole purpose of the bungee cords is that it doesn't vibrate with the shell. The only time it DOES move is...
Yeah, I could have spent some time fixing my snare but I was lazy, LOL.
I put a new head on and spent all of five minutes tuning it up.
This might sound like I'm getting a kickback from these guys, but I just felt the need to write this.
Let's face it: mic'ing a kick drum sucks. It's the only drum mic'd from the reso side and...
It is! Best china I've ever heard for my playing. I wouldn't call it especially musical, but it's INSANELY loud, piercing, and has a fast decay, so if you want the white-noise style sound associated...
I'm heading out to Pittsburgh next weekend, might see if I can snag a pair. Likely the Grind variant because it's about 55A size, which is right where I like it (after lots of testing). The Speed...
Dude, by that merit you should never have to buy anything because ostensibly you could do it yourself. Never take your car to a mechanic, built your house, wired it yourself, stitched your own...
Trick Dominator aluminum. Awesome beaters.
