Re: How the heck do I read this transcription?

Okay, I can't find the file. Sorry. Anyway, here's the conversion chart, if that helps.
Ignore the bottom part, with the notes on the staff. That's for writing a transcription.

Re: How the heck do I read this transcription?

Whoever transcribed it used a program called Guitar Pro. It's primarily used to notate and play back guitar in tabs. Tabs are like a "poor man's" standard notation. Each of the six lines represents a...

Re: NEW Istanbul Xist 14" Brilliant Hi Hats

Is it pronounced like "exist?" Any way, great looking cymbals, and since it's Istanbul, I'm sure they sound great too.

Re: New Beats or A Custom hats?

I prefer New Beats, but I don't know the reason why. I guess it goes back to the age old "sounds good to me."

    Re: Drum Risers

I know a guy who built a drum riser out of square aluminum (maybe?) tubing. It was used for the main stage at the Trails West! festival, and we used it for pep band at high school basketball games.

    Re: My New Toy!

Those things are great! In high school, our jazz band director would put one of those on a shelf at the front of the class to record practice, and it picked up everything really well. Congrats on the...

  9. Re: New toys! Splash, LP Cowbell, Tambourine, and Rhythm Tech Quad Mount

I still haven't had a chance to play it with the whole kit, but it seems like it will fit the bill. It's sturdy and hasn't slipped off the rod like my Stagg bell does, and has a nice sound. The one...

  11. Re: Ear protection / Noise cancelling headphones - what do you use?

I haven't used them personally, but they're endorsed by Paul Gilbert, and I worship the ground he shreds on, so I'm going to say they're a good product.

I have some cheapie Ibanez closed-back...
  12. New toys! Splash, LP Cowbell, Tambourine, and Rhythm Tech Quad Mount

Thank you Craigslist! I found a guy selling some splash cymbals, I go to pick one up and he asks if there's anything else I need. I walk out of there with a Zildjian K 10" splash, Tama/Gibraltar...

    Re: Kick triplet question

I agree with all of the above posts, but I want to point one thing out. Russ said "any three note grouping is a triplet," but I want to expand that to "any equally spaced three note grouping is a...

    Re: dogs'n'drums!

My band started jamming with a new drummer (I'm on bass) and he has 2 dogs. One is totally disinterested in everything, and the other is deaf. She hangs around us while we're jamming, thinking that...

    Re: Practice setups...let's see um

Over time the mesh will actually wear down the bearing edges on the shell. Not that the bearings on this set are any good, but I figured I'd better have them on there anyway. Also, it matches the...

    Re: Drum rug !!

I'd like to offer a piece of advice - take that mat to every gig you play. In my band (keep in mind, I'm the bass player, not the drummer) we play at this local bar often, and it has a carpeted...

    Re: Practice setups...let's see um

I'm putting together a kit with mesh heads. It would be done by now, but I loaned out half of my hardware from this set and haven't gotten it back yet. I also don't have cymbal replacements.

    John Bonham
    Neil Peart
    Buddy Rich

    Then the other guys:
    Todd Sucherman (currently of Styx)
    Jean-Paul Gastor (Clutch)

    Re: embarrassing gig moments.

I've never gigged as a drummer, but I've played many a gigs strapped to a bass guitar. I fell off stage once - a whooping 6 inches. Small stage.

I walked behind our singer/lead guitarist to jam...
