I like the look of a virgin kick, but I haven't noticed a significant sound difference between two kicks where that was the only variable.

I've heard some really nice hats in both 13 and 14. The only real way to tell any difference is to compare the exact same model (e.g., K Custom Dark) in both sizes. Trying to compare different models...
The first thing I always listen for when auditioning a bass player (or when playing the bass myself): Can he/she link up with the kick drum?
This is a quick, easy way to winnow the chaff.
Got the bottom head pretty tight, top head is about one whole step lower than the 14x6.5 Tama steel I own and it's sounding good. Very dry right now (which I'm okay with) but this seems to be a...
Plenty of horror stories like that for each position in a band.
Except us drummers of course. :liar:
I'm currently trying to dial in a decent tone with the original head (coated single ply) just to see what I get. There's a ridiculous abundance of ring when I strike the "no fly zone" (about 2.5...
"Sonor Force 3007 Snare Drum, Maple, Black on Natural, 13x7 Inch"
And on the invoice it says:
"Sonor Black and Tan Maple 13X7 Snare Blk/Nat"
Personally, "Black and Tan" sounds like a...
My maple seems to get along quite well with the clear pinstripes.
GOT IT!!
The badge says "Special Edition" so I guess the Black Mamba and the 3007 are the same thing (and I got it for $130 - sweet!). Anyway, it'll be a few days before I can try it out on the...
Okay, cool.
It should be arriving very soon. I'll post an update when I'm able. If you don't hear from me in 24 hours it's because the security of "Operation: Sneak It Into The House" was...
We have AAX cymbals on the kit at church. They sound really good, I like 'em.
Further investigation reveals that the Mamba has a Sonor badge that reads "Special Edition" while the other one reads "Force 3007".
But again, the product descriptions and specs I keep reading are...
If the description is correct, and a Mamba actually -IS- a 3007 at 13x7 dimensions, then yes, $130 is the price I got.
Well, you'll be happy to know I plan to swap out that ps3 head. You...
Okay, now I'm thoroughly confused. Here's a description for the Black Mamba from the Chicago Music Exchange website:
"Sonor's 9-ply maple shell in a new 13 x 7 inch size gives you all the...
Uh-oh...
I just reviewed my order. Looks like I got a 3007 snare (same dimensions and color) instead of an actual Mamba.
I'm going to be angry (mostly at myself).
Son. of. a...
Will do. Should be here next week. Hopefully I can get it into the house and on the kit before the wife sees it.

We'll see how it goes. I've heard a few good things about the Sonor Mamba, but it's nearly impossible to find any thorough evaluations--good OR bad--even here on DC (a...
Love Dennis Chambers' work. I think he has better solos than this particular one, but his chops are still world class.
I love the look of the 57s (never played them, unfortunately, but I trust they sound great). Even that cyan/seafoam color--which I HATE on cars and houses--looks "right" on that kit. Great choice,...
Probably a recipe: part "whip" action, part shell resonance, and both parts mixed at the right time to "harmonize" with--and further amplify--each other.
The only thing that makes me think shell...
Go to a show, listen to an incredible-sounding drummer, hang around afterward to check out the kit.
It's gotta be something high end. That tone was just too fat to be anything less than $2500.
The...
I've tried to stick to the philosophy that my purpose (as a worship team member) is to facilitate and support everyone else's worship. If I'm distracting them because I'm playing too much or playing...
I'm liking my new Sonor 20x17.5 more than my old Tama 22x16. Is that because it's actually better? Or because it's new? Not sure.
One of the best bass drums I've played so far has been a sweetly...
When you're Clapton covering Robert Johnson's Crossroads, you can do as you please because the people who came to your show want to hear CLAPTON doing it HIS way.
When you're Joe Local, you need...
My step-daughter was interested in learning the bass for a while. Sadly, it didn't last. I had Disney-esque visions of a great dad/daughter rock-n-roll band. Oh well.
