  1. Thinking of switching from Zildjian to Meinl

I played the meinl byzance dark cymbals the other day. Man I was blown away, they had such a 3 dimensional sound and were very pleasant and sweet.

I use A customs, which are pretty bright and...

    Re: I can't stop rushing

I have met a few people who have been able to tell me the tempo of a song that we were listening too. I know a few people with perfect pitch, I kind of think that some are born with "perfect rhythm"...

    Re: I can't stop rushing

I actually have the New Breed book. I think I always played with the click to fast to really fine tune my playing when practicing with it. I'm gonna try it at 70bpm or slower. I was frustrated with...

    Re: I can't stop rushing

I have been playing piano for my whole life, I went to college for jazz guitar and have been playing drums for almost 2 years. I never really lose track of the tempo that much, besides switching...

    I can't stop rushing

Sooo, I notice that I never get off of the metronome as in loose the beat altogether, but I notice that I rush when I play and than I hear it and fall back rather than sitting in a pocket. My snare...

    Re: Recommend some mics please.

I would go with the audix dp7, thats what I settled with over the shure

I don't like the AKG D112, its too muffled for my taste, the Beta 52a is a nice in between, the Audix D6 is on the opposite...
  8. Re: Remo Coated Ambassador vs Coated Emperor

I prefer ambassadors for my snares, but Emperors have a little more guts so i usually throw them on my toms. I find that Emperors are a little easier to tune and stay in tune longer. What style are...
  9. Re: Slingerland Radio King Chrome Snare (Gene Krupa))

Awesome, thanks for the info guys, I'm gonna clean it, try a Evans genera hd and a new ambassador on it, it has the mute inside, which is cool, but it makes it a little too unresponsive for my...

  11. Slingerland Radio King Chrome Snare (Gene Krupa))

I picked up one of these today, it was dirt cheap, its kinda dirty, slight bit of rust around the lugs here and there, nothing bad.

Threw a new ambassador hazy on the snare side. Shell on the...

Sticky: Re: So what drum related stuff did you do today?

Jammed with James Brown. Tuned my kit a little. Sight read for about an hour. Good day. School semester is over for me. Time to practice up
  13. Re: Developing good rhythm, tips and stories

I think you do lose a lot of feel when you use the click on straight quarter notes. But with it only on 2 and 4 or only on 4 or 1, it gives you a references while still forcing you to feel the in...
  14. Developing good rhythm, tips and stories

I'm a guitarist/pianist who is picking up drums. Recently I've realized how bad my sense of rhythm is. I'm not horrible or anything, but just not tight enough for a studio studio session, which is my...

Bad rooms kill even the best kits

    I have a 10x18 room.
    I've had
2 Tama Rockstars (not my thing)
Gretsch Catalina Club (kinda fun. I owned it)
    Yamaha Stage Custom (sweeet)
    Pearl Export (decent)
and my latest Ludwig Epic X Over...

  18. Re: Good heads to warm up a brittle snare?

I think both kits are birch.

Emperors and G2's here I come.
  19. Re: Good heads to warm up a brittle snare?

I currently have coated ambassador over ambassador snare side on these snares.

I have them well tuned. Not high pitched. I am not having overtone issues, they just sound brittle and lack warmth....

    Re: Ludwig Epic Series question

I'm a proud owner of the ludwig epic x over jazzette kit. Not quite the same, but the epic series is killer. I'm not even tempted to look at another kit, I love it so much.
  21. Good heads to warm up a brittle snare?

I am happy with my kit and snare(ambassador on snare), but I play at some churches and some of the snares are just too bright and brittle without much warmth and guts. They are using Remo Ambassadors...

    Re: Worst Gear Disasters

I got a bloody face by one of our rhythm guitarist headstock when he turned around at a gig.

Re: Ludwig Epic X over jazzette?

    Sticky: Re: Gretsch Drums Discussion

I have a gretsch catalina club jazz. I like the kick, but the snare sounds kinda cheap, the toms have a very limited tuning range.

My church has the a 6 piece catalina birch, the 12in rack tom...
