Re: George Way Drums Build Info?

The company is now small, based in Delta BC, near Vancouver.
The price might be low if you are in USA as the CDN dollar is weak right now.
The real scoop is they are well made and sound great and...

Re: Just turned over 3K posts today

I'm a geologist and know the rocks around Bancroft. Great area. Your place sounds supercool. Living in the woods is ideal for a drummer - no problem with drumming noise...except for nearby moose or...
  4. Re: How do you make a bad sounding set sound good?

I disagree heads are way down the list. You cannot tune (well) a head that is dished out, stretched or worn to smithereens, even on a nice shell....though maybe some folks like that sound.
    What...

    Re: Jim Marshall has died

RIP ! Great pioneer. Apparently he was a rags to riches story, also a *drummer* before designing amps (of course). I think to commemorate they should build the highest Marshall stack possible, maybe...

    What happened to Ploughman?

To anybody, just curious what happened to the Ploughman? Any clarification? He seemed a great long-time contributor who will be missed. If he's not coming back. that's unfortunate......long live...

    Sticky: Re: Rogers Drums Discussion

Heyyyyyy, I wondered what was up to!? What's the deal? Ploughman offered SO much info to any and all on this forum, especially on vintage drums, and like you was shocked to see him go, apparently for...

    Sticky: Re: Paiste Cymbals

Ya I heard that (his bass drums were insanely deep too)
Bonham used a 2oo2 20 ride at times as his RH crash as well. Seems bizarre to me, but he was a heavy hitter as well. I guess thats literally...

    Re: Charlie Watts

Ha, I think you may be goading us. Stiff, sure, he's no stick twirler (thank god for that).
Umm, Charlie has had a jazz/orchestral band in his off time with the Stones, for years. He started in jazz...

    Re: Charlie Watts

missing the 4th on the HH was taught him by Jim Keltner...a recording trick so you can hear the snare clearer on mic. its fun to fool around with that little trick, while drumming. it screws me up...

    Re: John Bonham

Ya , surely believable, everybody was copping others and Appice was kind of 'the first' in that genre, for sure.....but then again he wasn't in with the other 3 guys was he, to make the great Zep!? ...

    Sticky: Re: Paiste Cymbals

Black Label...they fetch a good price. I have a 20 Blakc Label 2002 ride, but not medium. often wondered the difference. The medium 18 crashes are a thicker cymbal and take quite a bit of power to...

    Sticky: Re: Paiste Cymbals

In my view, you can enter any club and hear the drummers cymbals and say "ya those are cymbals"" but you now almost instantly if "those are Paistes". Just "that sound" especially the 2002 or Giant...

    Re: 20" bass drum help

Ditto above what everybody said. Your head choices are fine. You might wanna try a 3 inch felt strip 3rd way over on your reso. It cuts the ringy or plastic tubby sound of a thin reso.

    The...

    Re: Buddy Rich

I just watched the Live in '78 Holland DVD. I had heard him, read about him, but don't have any of his 'music' and honestly never watched him intensely for a whole show.

    Re: Ludwig "Club Date" returns!

Awesome sound in that clip. Tuned kind of low, no?
I wish I could get my kit sounding like that.To me Ludwig is such a definitive sound in drums. I don't care if its made in China, with cherry/gum...

  21. Re: Accidentially Bought a Maple Custom Absolute!

I think a 16 inch bass drum depth (on your Yams) is a much better depth than your 18 inch depth (on your DW's). Great find. I don't own Yammies, but have played them around and they are such well...

Re: LUDWIG 1958-60 Gold Sparkle Classics

Yes heads are a cost to reckon with. In fact, I've started look at the local used market as a source for lugs, rims, hardware and...even heads! Some people sell some cheap drums but with more worth...

Re: LUDWIG 1958-60 Gold Sparkle Classics

Nice! Another great vintage find for you! I' trade ddrum for Ludwig anyday.
I would opt for a coated white bass drum reso though ...fits more of the vintage look of these drums.

    Re: Another Vistalite Restoration Project!

    Great find.
you could always just forget about the cracked 12 inch tom, and use just the 13 tom which appears in good shape. then just have a 13-16-22 setup. The 12 does look pretty well-cracked up....

Re: Let's Mod! (cutting down 22" to 20")

Twentys' are raw B20 ingots (or sheets) from Turkey and then worked at Paiste, and Signatures are a secret allow (B13?, with phosphor... secret alloy). Either way, I'm surprised whether cast or...
