Nice kit.
I ended up buying a Gibraltar JZ106. It has worked just fine so far with my DDrum Dios 7" x 13" snare. Stable and adjustable enough to serve its purpose as a side snare stand.
I ended up buying a DDrum Dios maple 13 x 7 used on ebay. $81 shipped and while it isn't going to win any awards it is a decent snare and I think quite a deal for what I paid.

Any thoughts on the Ludwig LM922SSL?
I'd like to get a cheaper low stand. I am trying to figure out if Gibraltar has one.
Any thoughts on Ddrum Dios Maple snare drums?
I really like the way Benny Greb often uses a side snare as an integral part of his kit.

Thanks for the detailed responses!
I guess I should mention that the Ludwig kit in this thread is what this snare would go with.

Yes. Playing them in person would be perfect. Don't have either model in my local drum store. I have a Guitar Center about 90 minutes away and one 2 hours away. It is possible that one or the...
I've been tuning the batter head to 80 lbs with the drum dial. I am still getting my head around tuning but that is kind of a middle low range I think....not particularly high....but not slack...
I am looking to buy a 13" snare to function as an alternative to my 14 x 5 Supraphonic and to be a side snare when I set up my entire kit.
The drums I am most interested in so far are the 13 x 5...

Superficially looks a bit like a Sonor Jungle Snare though this has no bottom head, right? Can anyone compare and contrast?

I can't say anything about that as I have never used an electronic kit and don't really know if these would work well in that context.
I guess I want it most for its action as I open and close the hi-hat but I thought it might be a nice added benefit if I could strike it as well.
I am getting the sense from talking to people that these things don't work very well when struck.
I wonder if any are heavy duty enough and have a stable enough mount to be struck and not break...
I am looking to buy a Jingle Ring to mount on my Hi Hat.....I guess the ones that are most on my radar are the Pearl, the Meinl, and the Latin Percussion versions.
Wonder if you've found any that...
Sabian made the 14" VFX Mini-Ride for a while. Never played one, though.

Well I guess I am finding that for me the quiet tip sticks are a bit too fragile. They may work well for other people though. I have found myself cracking/breaking the tips very quickly. I don't...
Never ever.
For the most part, yes, though I have been trying to get Pork Pie to do an oak version of the big boy throne.:icon_wink:
They are called Gig Grips and they are a great as far as I am concerned. I use them on all my sticks. I've also got some issues with arthritis and tendonitis and these are really helpful.
