    Re: Chris Cornell dead

I'm absolutely sick over this. A friend of mine took his own life this past Christmas, and Cornell and his associated musicians are without question among the most talented of his generation. If you...

Re: Show Us Your Snare Drums

Thank you, sir! It took a little bit to dial it it, but it likes being tuned low. I probably should pick up a spare throw off at some point should mine wear out.

Re: What new gear would you like to see created?

On the subject of Ludwigs, I was disappointed in my search for a steel or stainless steel snare from them.

I know, I know, they make the Supralites. I think, and if they steal this idea cut me a...

Re: I hate when that happens!

I had this happen often with Manu Katche and Tim Alexander sticks. Scared me away from Zildjian sticks. Ages ago Vaters split on me too. ProMark and Victoria Firth I've had good luck with.
  10. Re: Can you play with half of a double bass drum pedal setup..?

There's a pedal out there called the Duallist that does what you're describing, which is operate both beaters with one pedal. I've yet to see one in person, so I can't comment on whether or not they...

Re: Got to assemble 10 new kits

Pictures will follow, but I just made a day trip up to Portland from where I live and definitely spent a couple hours here.

Re: Need help on a John Bonham set up

The famous snare is the Ludwig Supraphonic chrome-over-aluminum, 6.5" deep, stock # LM402.

As for the rest of his stuff it's generally big Ludwigs, the exact dimensions Ludwig lists on their site....

Re: Got to assemble 10 new kits

You are lucky, sir! I was thinking about making the same trip (I'm south of Boston). Facility looks gorgeous, the former DCP was one cavernous room in a strip mall-type place.

    Re: Direct-drive or not?

Definitely one of those try - before - you - buy items.

I went to an Axis X single, had to switch out the beater and fiddle with it, but I'm glad I did. I like the utility of the design, makes it...

Re: Drilling a brand new DW bass drum - am I crazy?

That's clever! I like that. Gives you the option to take the whole thing off if you want and still have the look of the Virgin kick. The rail console for the Ludwig Atlas series attaches the same way.

Re: Drilling a brand new DW bass drum - am I crazy?

I'm in the same boat - woodworking is not something I have a background in so I personally wouldn't attempt to do something like this. If I drilled all day everyday that would be another matter.

    Re: Set up issues

I agree. Chad Gracey from the 90s Alternative band Live used to do this.

I started on a 2 up 1 down, went to 3 up 1 down (see Jimmy Chamberlin's kit), then 2 and 2, and after shoulder problems...
