    I use Evans EQ 3 heads on my kick with no muffling , I put the mic inside the drum and it sounds great. Don't know why you would be getting any interference from your snare drum. You shouldn't be....

    I had and old 16" crash that did the same thing. I was able to stop the crack from growing by drilling a small hole at the end of the crack. Got many more years out of the cymbal after that.
