I took the church's large wooden LP cabasa home to practice after seeing this short vid: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP0biK6td4E"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP0biK6td4E[/ame]

I have been having fun with it and am thinking about getting one. Any suggestions? I find the LP to be heavier than I would like and the beads seem a tad tighter than what Kalani is using in the vid. Kalani seems to spin his beads with no effort. I am not sure if his beads are looser or that is just pure skill.

Lisa, I have to say that I am intrigued by the Casaba too. That, and shakers would have good application in an acoustic set.

i saw somewhere also for like $100 dollars a foot cabasa where you press the foot pedal and it spins the cabasa, so then you can play something else at the same time

get one. i have a cabassa and i love using it. (but im an auxiallay percussion nerd) i actually have used it on a drumkit by rolling it on my thigh, holding with my left hand (im right handed) its sounds pretty cool with a 2/3 calve rymthm. i once played 8thso on a cabassa on my thigh, quarters ona tamb on my other thigh and quaters on a foot cowbell, ahhh good times. oh and somewhat off subject but marimba are underrated.

Thanks guys for responding. I love reading what you are all thinking about cabasa. I went to the local Guitar Center but they didn't have a Meinl for me to try. That is what I would like. I will pick one up online at some point. So many sounds from one instrument... gotta love it. Do it Pastor! Get one!

I have a sweet cabasa with a pickup. I like to plug guitar fx pedals up to it, can get some really crazy sounds.

I have decided that the cabasa is a great arm exercise. My husband who is in to weight lifting and exercise agrees. The move where you raise your arm while twisting your wrist especially (creates the sound of the beads rolling freely). It majorly works my extensors. I am now considering getting the behemoth LP deluxe wood cabasa for the ultimate arm/fun percussion workout.

I have a cabas and use it like the YouTube guy. lot of off beats and "slurs". I get a lot of nice compiments on how well it sounds and it cuts through the loud drumset unlike alot of things. One of the best precussion items I have.. and I have a lot
