I've got a vintage Tama swingstar. Any suggestions for heads?

Well you're gonna say Evans! And then someone will say something else... and then I'll be confused.

But yeah I'm looking at Evans Hydralics

You're going to be told Evans G2's and G1 reso's (or Emperor and Ambassador reso's), or the EC2 crowd will chime in.

That seems to be the long and short of it. I'm very happy with the G2/G1 combo on my older Crestar's, just FYI. However I am consider the Remo option for my kid's Superstar's.

On my Pearls I am using the G2 over G1 combo...love it.

On my DWs I am using Remo Emps over Ambos...they sound terrific as well.

my drum teacher has a vintage slingerland as his studio kit and he has ec2s over ecs... sounds very good love the toms and bass, as for snare i dont know his resonant but he has genera dry. i currently have ambassadors beater and resonant heads on my yamha and they sound good, but i personally like EC2S over EC resonants or G1 and for they snare genera dry over ec resonant. also try the evans J1 etcheds. and for the resonant bass i really like remo fibreyskins

Depends what kind of sound you want. Emperor's over Clear Ambassador's for a powerful rock sound, Pinstripes over Clear Ambassador's for a punchy, fat, less ringy tone (Or the Evans alternative to this is EC2's over EC's), coated Ambassador's over Clear Diplomats for a light, open jazzy sound...There's a lot of options depending on what kind of sound you want

13 x 10 Tom Remo Pinstripe over Remo Clear Ambassador

I have the EC2's with G1 reso's and they sound ok on my entry level PDP's. I have been playing a set of Swingstars (not sure of the age) and they have the Hydraulics on them. They have a big fat sound to them. Personally I like that sound but as you will see it's all in what you want. Im thinking about going with a coated head the next time around. Genera Dry on the the snare sound real good to me.
