I love mine but I don't know what a Falam patch is?
I got this new head last night, and put it on and i really like it, (BTW , I used Bob Gatzens bass drum tuning method, and it REALLY WORKED!) . The only thing is, it still gives a little ring even with the 2 foam rings, Falam Patch, and the dampening pad they give you. Firstly just the rings, the rings alone did give a good sound but not enough "oomph", for my standards, (and with a bass drum, those standards are pretty "up there"). So I added the dampening pad. This also gave me little, "oomph". Yet, I did REALLY like the difference between the two sounds.
Then I added the Falam patch, (as any of you would). I have stock PDP double pedal beaters, I know they're not the best, but let me tell you, I've made them feel like Iron Cobras . I tell you this because as most of you know, the beaters that come with the pedals are made of plastic. When applied to the head, the Falam patch made the impact of the beaters sound almost,"sharper". I liked that sound, so I intend to stick with that.
Now, I did something a little different. A while back I ripped my reso. head on my bass. I decided to go a little retro, so for a while i didn't have a Bass Face (no pun intended). Most people would think that this is a little cheap looking, I really didn't care. I found that my bass drum sound a heck of a lot better, with out a face, this gave me that familiar, "oomph", we talked about earlier yay!.
VERDICT:
*You really have to use all of the little gadgets that come with the head.
*Fair price(22''= about $40.00).
*sounds better without a face.(Evans offers a mesh head, which really gives the best of both worlds for me. good look, GREAT SOUND.
Rating: 4 stars.

It was originally designed as a device to assist with quitting smoking. But since there was no medication attached to it someone decided to attach it to the bass drum where the beater hits it and voila, you now have a more focused attack "whack" when struck with the beater.
It also adds another layer of reliability to your head for more durability.

I didn't get one with mine........or didn't see it in the box more likely!

Ive gotta say, of all the kick drum heads Ive used on my kits, the Powersonic is by far the worst, and well behind the quality and durability of the Superkick or EMAD.
Im glad youve had better luck with it than I!
