Default moving ride to left side

so in order to work on my weak hand, I've been thinking about swapping my ride to the left side of my kit. Right now I just have the hats, a ride, and 2 crash cymbals. I figure if I move the ride over by the hats and force myself to use my left hand for ride patterns that I would normally use my right hand for it will really help me build up strength and speed in my left hand.

Has anyone tried this approach? how did it work out for you

That's where Carter Beauford plays his ride (DMB). He plays open hand, and it is part of the secret of his playing. He says he did it because he watched films of Buddy Rich shot from in front of the kit, and he tried to mimic his hand motions, not realizing they were reversed.
And the trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw. . .

I also have two rides and several crashes. Stick work helps as well.

Great idea Quad. I used to do that alot. You can also just ride your hi-hats a lot with your left hand.

get a ride for both sides and hats as well. only thing is the right side hats can stay closed and the left ones can remain open giving you all kinds of possibilities

I do like th eidea of 2 rides , I keep mine to my far right above my floor tom. I wouldnt mind getting another and place it just slightly to the right of my snare position .

You are a braaaaave man, Quad. I'm too chicken to do that. But I do play a couple of songs with my right hand on the hi hat, at least part of it.

The current drummer for MegaDeath has his ride above his hats as you are describing. Try it, see how you like it.
