But I do have a new Sabian XS20 (my son has the older Zildjian) and some older Paiste 3000 hats that I love (my son has my old Zildjian hats as well).

I started out on ZBTs, and they got me through until I could afford better. If you can wait, save for some As, or A Customs. Buying used cymbals is not a bad way to go...just watch out for certain things, cracks, key holing, scratches in the grooves, rust, etc.

If you have any more ?s I will be happy to help! As I'm sure everyone else on here. Nobody here wants to see someone get screwed on bad cymbal deals.
I would agree. ZHT's are also higher tin content (12% versus 8%) compared to B8's or ZBT's. My brother has a full set of ZHT's (put the money into the Renown's instead of getting lesser drums and better cymbals) and they definitely sound decent. But B8's are decent if that's your budget, but even used ZHT's might be a better deal.

I am normally a big fan of better cymbals than drums...because with good heads and tuning they can sound better...not the same for cymbals. But Renowns might have been hard to pass up! lol

Thanks a bunch for all your info guys!! I REALLY like the A Custom line from Zildjian.I guess i'll just wait it out and keep saveing my money. The reason i was asking about the ZHT's is that a few of my B8's have about seen their last days and i was looking for a decent cymbal that i could get to replace them. Thanks again for all your info!!

Well, this afternoon I paid off a used cymbal and brought it home. I had been tapping on it at the store for about for a month when I finally made the decision that I wanted it for my kit. It's an 18" Zildjian A Custom EFX cymbal, and I think I like it better than a china cymbal, although I'm still figuring out exactly where to use the sound. I cleaned it up and took this picture:

    $50cdn sounds right - I paid $92 for mine I think.

Nice high bell sound I bet.

AND Pastor Bob - what an interesting looking cymbal ! That'll add some extra flash to the kit - nice one!

Hey PB, cool looking cymbal! looks like a space craft bottom..no seriously, i have not heard this type before, you said you liked it better than a china, will you hang it upright or upside down, and will that make it sound different? just curious.

Marty, it hangs just like a regular cymbal, and it has what I think of as a bright sound with just a hint of the trashiness of a China. I think of it as "China light." My 18" Wuhan China is very gongy, and my 12" China has a nice high pitched trashiness that sounds great with the 12" splash. This new cymbal is getting more play time as a nice accent sound, and the 18" Wuhan is being saved for that great gong sound that can come in only certain places.

This Zildjian cymbal is one sweet ride!

It came with the kit I've almost completed restoring - 1958 Gretsch 3ply. I have heads on order - no - that's not that soooooooo 70's look (no reso in the bd - haha).

It's a K Zildjian - old stamp - 18.5 inch sizzle - apparently that's an uncommon size. It has a beautiful warm wash-tone, completely different than any of my Istanbul Agop rides - not that the Istanbuls I have aren’t great cymbals - just different.

I sent Zildjian an email asking for information on how to get some rivets. I included some photos of the old cymbal and a little information on how I came by it. I got an answer right away with some nice comments regarding my email with the photos and they're sending me some rivets - free! That was very nice of them.

I can't say enough about how I love my Purewood African Mahogany Gretsch and the 14 Istanbul cymbals I have - but -these 1958 Gretsch drums and the Zildjian cymbals (14 A hats too) that came with them are hands down my favorite drums at this time!
    UP-DATE:
I added the last photo today. Not using my snare - the very "sensitive" MicroSensitve snare switch is broken right now. The Tama is doing just fine in there - it is one nice drum!
