Woo! After selling my AAX crash to pay a bill, I've managed to acquire an AA thin crash for just £31!! ($49) Easter post means it may take a while to arrive, but pics will follow!

Thats funny! I think they have a twelve step program for that but I need it as much as you! If those beauts are the addiction then I`m hopelessly Jones-ing!

    Loving this thread!

When I started to build my kit I simply bought whatever I could get my hands on through spare cash and upgrading what I had and trading them in. I always bought good quality though as I wanted to ensure that I would be able to get a good trade in when the time came to upgrade. This always lead me to Sabian and Zildjian.

Before I moved full time to Sabian I had a mix:

    Sabian AAX 10" Splash
    Sabian 14" Pro Hats
    Zildjian 15" K Dark Crash
    Zildjian 16" ZBT Thin Crash
    Sabian 18" HH Crash Ride

These were acceptable but over time I found that the Zildjians could not stand the heat of my playing so I gradually moved over to what I have now (all Sabian):

    AAX 10" Splash
    AAX 12" Splash
    AAX 13" Fusion Hats
    AAXplosion 16" Crash
    AAXplosion 18" Crash
    AA 21" Rock Ride

I will shortly be purchasing a 14" AAXplosion crash or AAX Stage crash - still trying to make up my mind. Next on my radar is a new ride (possibly raw bell dry) and set of 14" AAX hats (possibly stage hats) and a china. I am looking to build up a highly flexible set up that will allow me to play many different styles.

I would love to have a full rack of HHX but I can't justify that sort of cost and, besides, I love my cymbals!

just got a 20 AA raw ride, understandably this cymbal will not suit many an application, but i love it for its woody stick definition, dark to mid tonal range, its great bell and lush crash. took a month of internet prowling before i found a memphis drum shop vid for this and was sold at note one.

perfect fit for someone like myself that may play in smaller settings and who are generally sensitive to the abrasive nature of most ride cymbals.

a great alternate that may appeal to those who favor a dryer sound, and at 225.00 its priced reasonably.

considering the twenty two as a companion, less crash worthy but with even better stick.

You're asking the wrong people for help LOL!!

Congrats on your new Paragons! They are beautiful. I feel like I'm cheating on my Paiste cymbals. I bet they sound just as beautiful as they look. Nice set up too.

quick question, what is the difference between the AA and the AAX ??

AA has traditional lathing, AAX has pinpoint lathing. The difference being that the AA's take more of a hit to "open up" and reach their full sound, whereas the AAX's will sound the same all the time and change in volume depending on how hard it's hit.

Basically, yea. Except the HH and HHX's are hand hammered, the AA and AAX's are hammered by a machine.

I have a 22" AAX Metal ride that I just LOVE...great 'ping' without a lot of wash, unless you really lay into it w/the shoulder of the stick, or on the edge of the cymbal. I also have a 20" AA rock ride that's similar, but will wash a little easier.

I've got an AA rock ride as well. Not a bad cymbal. Currently using a Zildjian 20" A Custom ping ride.
