the yamaha DTXtreme III is amazing
i need to see what kind of e drum(s) i need to get. i'm lookin for two or three pads to put around my kit so i can trigger certain sounds like cowbell, tamborine, large bell, thunder (lol), and different snare or tom sounds. i know alot of e drums will do this, but i also would like to get a sound module that i can record my own sounds and have those sounds triggered. i really like the roland td-20. it seems to be the industry standard. any info would be great.

The only way to catch a butterfly is never waiting for the wings.
td-20 or yamaha dtxtremeIII's are most favored as their quality is the highest currently in production. or are you planning on converting?

Sounds like a sampling pad is what you need.
Sounds like a sampling pad is what you need.
It has most of the Roland sounds as well as a MIDI out so you can trigger your own samples on a sequencer,
have you thought maybe getting a trigger and a kick pedal ....
i thought this was quite cool ...more for playing by hand but it works
thanks guys, yeah ive thought of the sampling pad but can i hook up pads that i can place around the kit ? one by the hats another by the floor toms kinda thing.

It sounds to me like the cheapest way to go would be to look for an older brain and some pads. Like a Roland TD5 or and Alesis DM5. Then you can but the pads as you need them.
You have a lot of options.
And yes the TD20 is great but I think it is a lot more brain then you need for what you are trying to do.
alesis also makes trigger cymbals called surge, so if your looking to do a total acoustic/electric convert, they are a possibility as well

how about that for a ton of options?
yeah if only the other modules like dtxpress had 12 interchangable inputs for under a grand like alesis dm5 does. sigh*

thanks guys for the help. im leaning toward the roland spd-s. you can record your own or use whats programmed and i think it'll expand for 2 or 3 pads. thats all i need....for now.
