Default cymbal roll on electronic drums

    Hi Everyone,

I play a Yamaha DTXpress III that I use frequently for musical theater gigs. Many things I like about it, one thing I don't -- cymbal rolls. They don't come out smooth and even but rather choppy. I usually roll on the crash cymbal pad with a light crash setting. There is a "soft roll" selection for the type of cymbal, but I've never quite figured out how that's supposed to work. Any tips would be appreciated.

Yeah, i've encountered a very similar problem with my simmons, I don't think that it's set up/capable of cymbal rolls because it's a trigger, meaning that it doesn't understand what you are trying to do it just plays the sample every time you hit the cymbal based off how hard you hit it of course. I too was a bit disappointed.

i read a review somewhere about a guy with a pintech zenbal couldnt get more than a weak trigger from his cymbal that he was using, so his solution was he took some tape and made an X just above the trigger so he knew where to hit to get the best response.

This is a common issue on e kits, Even the Roalnd TD20 as weak in that area. I just installed the expasion card and it seems to have fixed it for me. My sugestion is to hand out on the vdrum forum and see what you can find out there.
