Gotta watch which one you go for if ask me. I had to cut down like 4 inches off the legs and put the rubbers back on. It was way to tall at the lowest setting. The first one is what I picked up used the other (IMO) is what you will want. Note the leg difference.

I have the hydrualic RnS and my base looks like a mix of the 2. The legs of mine look like your lower pic there.

Yea, I got the spindle version (the bottom pic) for this very reason -- it can get plenty high, but also can go lower than any other throne I've seen. It can go low enough to play a 14" djembe with the base of the djembe resting on the ground and the head right where it needs to be for comfortable playing.

Also, I played on the hydraulic version (the top pic) at my church the other day, and it actually made me a little motion sick. It jostles you up and down while you play. I guess it's supposed to reduce the impact or something, but the actual effect was awful.

Ha, that's part of why I bought it. I like the "give" it has as you play. Very comfortable to me.
