    Default Pics from last Friday...

So last Friday was the big charity show at my school. Unbelievably awesome, even with some serious tech issues with PA equipment (can you say smoking amp?).

Had about 200 in the house, and completely rocked. The kids were amazing! Raised $2700 for charity.

Definitely liking the offset configuration. Kit sounded solid, and first show with my "new" older Tama Artwood snare to match my kit.

My son, Adam, playing Misery Business by Paramore.

The bulk of the kids on stage for a kickin rendition of Walking on Sunshine. This time my son's on the Tenor Sax.

Who says 40 is old. These guys still get some air.

One advantage of my kid playing drums, I can step out and rock the mic. Here I am getting the crowd involved on the final song, Rock and Roll All Nite.

    Hahahaha.

Actually it's the school's gong. We just had to put it behind me in front of the curtain. My son threw a stick at it when he was playing a song, but I don't think it was heard.

Here's a pic of the kit before the show! I love the lighting and the offset setup. Something so cool about a kit with mics on it, don't know why. In the other pics my wife's good camera lights everything up, but the show was lit beautifully.

Looks awesome lit up like that bud! And I think a mic'ed kit looks cooler to us because we know what it sounds like mic'ed up!

One of these days I'll remember to take a camera along to one of our gigs. We get pics sent to us from people in the audience sometimes, but I need to take some pics of my drums set up on stage like that.

You are absolutely correct about the mic's. It's such a huge plus when the kit is mic'd. We are looking at upgrading our PA, and I might do light mic'ing on the drums in anything but small bars. Much clearer sound!

Plus they look so pro with them on. My son was loving it all mic'd up. Makes you feel all important!

I think part of what's cool is that it's from a lesser camera. My wife's DSLR works too well for low light, and the flash lights everything up. We don't know how to use it that well, but I'm sure we could cut the flash. The low light gives you the stage lighting color, which is part of the "coolness".

Great to see the kit on a stage, I would say you are happy you left it alone and just cleaned it up. How does the new snare sound?

    Rob,

Although I always seem to be looking around, I'm very happy with the kit right now. They sound great with the G2/G1 combo on them, I love the offset config, and running the 10/12/16 lineup has been great! I also switched to a Evans EQ3 reso which I can wholeheartedly recommend, has added a lot to the kick sound.

Not quite as enthusiastic about the snare so far. Put a new G2 and Hazy 300 Reso on it and still couldn't get a great sound. It was very buzzy, particularly the snares, or it ended up totally choked. Replaced the snares with a shorter set (the originals extend past the head as you know) and that helped a lot, but still doesn't quite have the punchy

I think I might try an Evans Genera Dry, or Power Center and see what happens. I have an EC2 from another drum that's pretty new, but I never liked how it killed the openness of the head outside the middle.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How's the refinish going? You done yet?

As happy as I am, I'm hoping one day to either upgrade to Starclassics (hopefully without selling the Crestars) or buy a 2nd kit. There are the usual suspects, Catalina's, etc..., but the I'm curious about the Ludwig Epic's.
