New Drum
I just finished up a 4 day workshop with the west african teacher Famadou Konate where we learned djembe and dunun parts. I had never played the dununs before, but I really enjoyed them. You can kind of think of dununs as the african version of the bass drum line. Rhythm traders had a discount on the drums they used for the workshop, so I picked up the medium sized one ( sangban) and my friend picked up the smaller drum (kenkeni).
I am looking forward to incorporating this into our drum group!

Cool drum Midgard! Looks like you sit it sideways and play both ends, right? Also, what's the metal piece that shows in the first pic?

You do play it sideways, but you typically play just one end with your right hand. The metal bell on top you play with your left hand. So you have a drum beat going and a bell beat going at the same timeOriginally Posted by pastor_bob

The head in the carving has some sort of hat or head gear, thus the animal hairs

Very cool drum Midgard, what type of skin does it have? I bet it sounds nice and warm, looks very much like a nice piece of folk art too.

It has cow hide, with the fur still on. And yes, it does have a very warm sound and has a great tone.
