    Default wooden vs metal rims

This has been on my mind for awhile.. I have seen drums, especially snares with wood rims lately. I'm not sure why people tend to like those, is it the look, or is it something that they have that beats the classic metal rimmed snare? I've never tried a wooden rimmed snare, mostly because when I look at it, I think the rim would break more easilly than a metal rimmed snare. All answers to this would be alot of help.

    All the best to you

Both reasons........they look good and depending on what style music your band plays give the snare a nice warm sound .

Not a good idea for metal bands.........great sound in a jazz band or big band .

And yes , you can damage them by beating the snot out of them. But then again, who would do that , you dont need to wail on your set to get sound from it .

    Hope this was helpful .

You probably wouldn't want wood hoops then, maybe for the bass though.
