    Thumbs up Best practice EVER!!!!

today, I had the best practice I think I'll ever have in my entire life.
for starters, I had a fun time marching, partly because it was the shortest so far. The main reason I loved this practice was that there was someone there to TEACH me how to play crash cymbals. He taught me EVERYTHING from chucks to all sorts of crashes, chokes, buzzes, holds, excersizes for arms, and even how to put the straps on (So now the good pair of cymbals is MINE!!!), and also what to do when you don't have or know the music. everything was lots of fun at practice, and I even got to play the two illini cadences I know with Chris Stoddard http://www.uidrumline.com/index.php?page=4&memberID=12 who is currently on the Illini Drumline, and formerly was on my drumline. I found out that I could play them easier than he.

From that experience, I also learned two things:
    1. Playing crash cymbals deals with alot of guessing
    2. I play drums WAY too much.

I really don't think I'll EVER have a better rehearsal with the Prairie Ridge drumline.

I still can't decide between tenors and bass. I love bass too much (no idea why) but I love tenors too. I made both, but we needed more bass line, so I chose bass.

Bass is fun because you are interacting with the other bass players, but if you really want to, try tenors.

I also learned that the strikers (my instructor's other drumline) has an EXTRA tenor part and that the PR students are allowed in it. owait... that doesn't work

I always enjoyed when the line got to practice by ourselves. To hear and see how each one of us sounded was fun. Plus we would always goof around yet get stuff accomplished. No jab at the wind players but I always thought people came to see the drumline show off.

Honestly, I like it better when the whole drumline plays instead of sectionals. Don't get me wrong. I like sectionals, I just like practicing with the drumline better because we get to hear each other and see how the whole cadence or song is supposed to work.

Exactly, the drumline together, hearing the beat, the drive, the sound. Gives me chills just thinking about it.
