Wow such passion over a specific drum brand!
As for the gov't forcing us to conform, I'm a teacher and I'm offended. There is a whole army of bad teachers out there doing the very same thing!

about the eco-x, id like to point out a few good points. its great that they are brancing out into hybrids, and im glad to see something besides their hardware on major distribution websites like mf, music123, and siglers. it helps give an idea of how much they are, so the people who have always wanted one can know how much to save. i doubt personally i could afford a set because of where im at budgetwise, but maybe it would be cool if they decide to have the collectors, and jazz series also make similar appearances, complete with pricing lists for preconfigured setups, and of their add-ons

I see this kit as an alternative to the more commonly used woods, and a viable option. Instead of going with a more rare commodity, they are combining two woods that are relatively fast growing and more sustainable. I don't object to that, but it's not what would convince me to buy them. To others that may be important however.
Other manufacturers have also tried expanding to new options, hence carbon fiber and acrylic drums. To me it is a company exploring another option. Are they for everyone? Heck no, that's why we have so many different manufacturers and so many different choices now. What's one man's junk is another man's treasure.
I am not particularly brand loyal, since I've owned kits by many different manufacturers, and I think they all have their good points. I'm sure the Eco-X kits have their good points as well, though I have not had the opportunity to try them. The eco-friendly advertising is most certainly a marketing ploy, but are there any manufacturers that don't employ their own marketing strategies to sell their product? The answer quite simply is no. If you don't like their advertising strategy, you don't have to buy them.
I would not personally buy them just because they have the DW name on them, and especially not because of the eco-friendly aspect. But if I were in the market for a kit and they fit the bill for me, I would certainly consider them. But I would also be comparing them against other kits, and ultimately my decision would come down to what I think sounds best, looks best, is an affordable price (to each of us affordability is different, as is preference in sound and looks), as well as the company's customer service and reputation for build quality.

That is one of the funniest posts I've read in a long time. I literally laughed out loud. My co-workers were curious as what was so funny. One look over my shoulder and they looked at each other and said "Drummer humor," shrugged and walked away.
I also laughed pretty good at the suggestion of a seal carcass and whale bone kit...long live hard core sarcasm!!
Hey Les
I always get your dry comments, man. Keep it up!
Peace and rhythm...

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!
