    Default Good Jazz Kit?

Hey, I have a humongous set, seven piece and I'd like to buy a smaller set sometimes soon (most likely later) for travel and for Jazz. I've heard a lot of good about the Gretsch Catalina, and got to play one, but does it come in green? You drum masters got any thoughts?

Zack, if you are thinking about the Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz kit, it does not come in green. The colors are the White Marine Nitron, a Walnut Glaze, Rustic Pearl, and Satin Natural.

They have one of those at my local GC. It's way up near the ceiling so I can't get a good look at it but it even looks beautiful from down on the floor.

Well you coulldddd buy me that set :-D But, actually, I found a site with a Green Catalina...Guess it was limited edition. But, yeah, good idea, except for the fact the bass drum is like 22"...It's SO huge :-D

So instead of buying a whole new kit, buy a smaller bass drum to match your current kit and use everything else you want to on it for jazz.

I'm with Zach...big bass drum on the Catalina is not really suited to Jazz drumming.
Which is why I always kept my original Ludwigs with a 16x20 bass drum. I get enough "Kick" when I need it playing big band but I get more accoustic control when playing smaller combo jazz. BTW, that Gretsch Anniversary Jazz kit is absdolutely phenomenal!

I know I saw the Cat Club kit in green sparkle with an 18" kick somewhere. They were a special make for a certain retailer. I love me my Cat Club drums!
