this pedal. I know it has been called a cheater pedal, but has anyone had one of these or know if they are junk or whatever? There is the super expensive Sonar (i think) one also. Seems like a decent idea. Limited double bass action and still use a hi-hat. Heel toe technique. Thanks.

I used a similar pedal once. It was called the Gemini 3000 I think. It was neat to use. It's not necessarily cheating if you still learn and use all the same techniques that everyone else uses. You'd have to play heel down to use the other beater. It could open up some neat stuff. But yeah it's cheating, just like using a bass pedal to hit the drum instead of kicking it with your foot is cheating.

why wold it be cheating? you are still required to play in time and play what is required for the song?

I have only tried the Duelist. It was a well built pedal

    Don't get that pedal.

It looks much to similar to the Pulse pedals, and Pulse pedals suck! I was stuck with a pair of Pulse double pedals for quite a few months before I got some Powershifters.

I have just started using the Duallist D4 pedal.

I returned to playing in March this year after a short 24 year break(!) and had never tried a double pedal. I was worried about the traditional twin
pedals as I do a lot of accents with the hi-hat etc, but this seemed to be another option, so I got one to try.

I spent a while setting it up and then tested it on my 'e' kit and was totally amazed!

Check this audio clip out (sorry there is no video as my camera has broken, I'll do a video when it is fixed) to see how I got on.
I start with the double, switch to the single and then back to double.

Yikes, it does look like that don't it. This pedal is distributed by Universal Percussion under the Cannon brand name. Wonder if there the same parts or just a coincidence. Probubly the same componants.

Play whatever gear you like. Just remember that you don't want to be in a situation where you can't play certain things if you don't have you're "special" pedals. You should be able to play your best on any gear.
A good drummer will sound good on anything(even stock drum heads). A bad drummer will sound bad on anything.

You use the heel toe method in a rocking motion. Your heel activates the left side beater, and your toes, (ball of the foot) activates the right side beater, so in effect your getting the same action as you would a double pedal set-up only using one foot, which frees up your other foot to be able to stay on the hi-hat.

This was my pair I had:

Same beaters, pretty much same footboard design.
