    I hear drummers say "if I can't sing the part, I can't play it." How are you singing a groove for example? How do you break up the the snare and bass drum while singing to yourself?

    You can use any sounds or words you want. It just has to resemble or reflect the way the instrument sounds. The above example is a good one. Here's another:

    Boom Boom Bap, Bap Ti Boom Bap

    Boom = Bass Drum
    Bap = Snare Drum
    Ti = Hi Hat

    These are just some out of hundreds of different ones people use. You can get an idea of how a lot of people do it by watching human beat boxers or "drum rappers". Check this guy out:

    Check out this "mouth drummer". The guy is amazing. He works in the melody while he's beat boxing. He can do brush sounds that sound like the real thing man. Incredible!

    There's that odl trick of using words that have the same number of syllables to count it out - for example Hippopotamus for something that requires 5 strokes. Then there's the good ol' parradiddle which sounds like what it is.
