vintage restoration - slotted tension rods?

Hi i am just embarking on trying to improve the old 60's premier kit i have that some might have seen in another thread. My question is this. Would it be better to replace the slotted tension rods used on the old drums for normal ones? Ive already replaced half of them. The slotted would be more retro but normal more practical and im not sure which would be better; bearing in mind i want the best sound possible.

If it was me, I would use normal. I'm all about practicality. I used to have a premier set and the slotted lugs drove me crazy.
