    been searching for the oak finish and found it was only offered in 1979 called oakwood...

    The shells are the same 3 ply maple with a oak veneer, or are the shells made of oak? The inside looks like maple, but hard to tell from just looking in the bd port. I've never seen this finish before, probably pretty rare if it was only produced in '79. Great score man, I bet they sound even better than they look.

    Hey John...That is so cool! Perfect Big Band sizing of the shells. The only difference from my kit is the bass drum, I have the 20" rather than the 22".
    There's a lot to be said for Time Honored tradition and value.

    thanks guys

    looks like maple on the inside

    had the 12" tom at the local music store today with a very old batter head and it blew everything in the store away

    what heads for the tom batter ? the bass has a powerstroke 3 and the big hole in the reso sounds absolutely killer just like it is !

    I just gotta tell everyone I put evans g1 coated heads on the toms a power stroke 3 on bass and these drums sound .....AMAZING !! I just can't get over it played them with plastic tips wood tips and hot rods all Killer !! I Love this sound !! I cleaned the chrome and put the heads on and I am gonna do nothing else to this set it is ready !!

    Now I officially hate you!!!! I'm keeping on the prowl. I decided better to not rush and find the right deal. If I rush I'll over pay or settle. I don't need them, so no hurry.
