i reckon it depends on the alloy.
What do you guys do with finger prints on the cymbals?
I always wipe the finger prints on my cymbals because it started oxidizing(turning greenish) on my ZBT crash that I had.
I bought an A Custom to replace the ZBT and I make sure to wipe every finger print off of it because I`m afraid its gonna turn out like the ZBT.
Would my A Custom turn green too if I don`t wipe the finger prints off?
If anyone has pictures, that would be great.
Thanks

I don't clean my cymbals.
Matt
NIk276, I haven't seen any problems with fingerprints oxidizing on my cast cymbals, but then everyone's body chemistry can be different. I would guess, though, that it is the higher brass content of the ZBT's that allowed the oxidation. Many drummers choose not the clean there cymbals - the idea being that it allows the cymbal to mellow over time. Other clean their cymbals regularly to keep that "like new" shine and sound. I'm just lazy enough to land somewhere in the middle. I'll clean my cymbals every 6 months to a year.

i think clean cymbals sound brighter, but dirty or aged cymbals have darker characteristics respectively. the shape of my kit reflects how i feel about playing music, so once a month i take a lil time to maintain and just tell them i appreciate what i have and the privelege of playing them

I've been playing A Customs for about 4 years now and have gone through about a dozen of them. I'm a hard hitter so i've never posessed one long enough for it to be a problem. I use the Ziljdan brand polish and it works great! Being i'm in the show business water from what i call the "Triple H" stunt ends up on my cymbals and THAT, I have to clean off before i put them away. A bit of a hassle but no, i've never had problems with finger prints other than looking annoying ha ha!
Groove Juice will take those off pretty easy.
I don't clean
WD-40 will get rid of those pesky finger prints. I use it to clean my cymbols...as opposed to abrasives that strip precious metal off one microscopic layer at a time.
no... The best stuff is your average Brass or bronze cleaner. It will do the trick. If you use it and black appears, don't worry. In fact, celebrate! That means your cymbal is just a few rubs away to shininess!

I have been using an off the shelf product called "Clean King" for about 25 years, when I moved here to Texas I could not find it, I found a product that seems to be the same formula called "Barkeepers Helper" that are both mild abrasives go with the grooves. DO NOT use it on lower end or any cymbals or cymbals with a baked enamel coating like Paiste.
A coat of high end car wax after cleaning will help keep them looking clean much longer ;-)
I'll stick with WD-40. I see nothing to celebrate about buffing away thin layers of metal off expensive cymbals. I suppose if they were completely corroded, but I'm talking just a monthly shining to get rid of the dust and finger prints. WD-40 works great for that and leaves the metal intact.
Let me know how it works for you backtodrum. Are your cymbals REALLY badly corroded or do they just need a quick shine? I'd be curious to see if the WD-40 removes heavy corrosion. I use it just as a quick shine as my cymbals are pretty new...and should STAY looking new with regular applications.
Mine are just fingerprinted A customs. I really keep them up and don't let them get too dirty. I generally use the sabian cymbal spray on them, similar to groove juice I would guess, just not near as acidic or harsh. The WD40 trick sounds like allot less work though to get the same result. I use it for everything else though, I just neve have considered its use on cymbals before.
