As far as I can tell from the pictures it is really just a wooden cottage, and the wood plates are the outer walls?
I would put rockwool (don't know how it is known in America, but the pic should explain it) on the walls, stuff it real tight, just compress it as much as possible, to make the room a little soundproof. then cover the rockwool with plaster plates (? -> Gyproc), perhaps even multiple layers.
The first layer would have to be attatched trough screws or nails, but if you add another layer, you might consider gluing it in place, using special glue, designed for acoustic isolation. (can't give a product link :/)

That is only if the room needs insulation, but if your drums were already there, I guess you won't need that (unless it is the other way around, and sounds from outside, like cars driving by, can ruin your recordings)

For acoustic purposes, you might want to make some basstraps (google it).

Was this information helpfull? I don't really know your specific situation, and you didn't specify a budget, so I'm just giving some general tips, pretty afforable, although you can go cheaper.
Another tip, but that seems to be out of place, is to have your walls not lined up in corners of 90°. the more odd shape the room is, the better the acoustic value it is going to have. But your walls are already there, so I guess that is not an option.

    that was very helpful.
i was thinking the next thing to do would be to get a area rug or some of these studiofoam thingies

Hey Russ, good plan. I think I can help you out a bunch or at least point you in the right direction. I'll PM you so as not to break the no link rule.
basically what you're going to want to do is angle the walls to avoid standing waves as well as seperate the main wall from the interior walls, a room within a room, pretty much what Bafke said.

creating a room within a room is something else. what you want to do when doing that is actually making shure every contact to the exterior walls is vibration proof. It is a very expensive and complicated option, that is easily totally screwed up. A little flaw is enough to spoil your entire work.
I don't reccomend trying that, you should only hire professionals for a 'room in a room'.

What I was talking about, is just another way of making your room soundproof, or as close to that as you can get. For the acoustics, the angled wall placement is pretty important, but there are enough DIY guides for making basstraps etcetera to improve acoustics *** well.

Not much, it might affect the rooms acoustics, but I doubt it'll be noticeable.
Defenately won't make any difference as far as making your room soundproof.

Ok Bafke was on the right track..if its in the budget do it right..insulation between studs vapor barrier to warm side.drywall then paint..you can make up some sound baffles with some fabric over either soft foam or rigid fiber.( like they do at theaters ) you don't need to spend alot of money and you only need a few on each wall something like 3x5.. i would defineately take care of floor by way of sleepers over concrete to create a sub floor, then glue and screw plywood down..not OSB, then some real inexpensive carpet remnant with low pile will complete..paint to dress it up so the ladies will feel comfortable...then start Rock'in

If you could tell us what you are planning to spend, and if you can put some priorities down, we could help out alot more.

Since your drumkit already was there, I suspect that you haven't got any trouble with the room being soundproof. If I look at the pictures, I think otherwise. So, are you planning on actually soundprofing the room, or do you just want to try to improve the acoustics?
You said the next thing to do would be getting a rug and some acoustic foam, I don't really get why, could you explain?

my priorities are to patch up the walls and get the place covered with something to be able to use the room for decent enough recordings. im hoping to acoustically treat and soundproof, if thats possible. the place has old wood that is loose and coming off in certain places, so im really trying to cut whatever costs i can and keep rain and bugs out as well. my budget isnt substantial, im just looking to have things done right, whatever that takes.

the rug was so my drums wouldnt get scratched, and i guess thats the thing to do for the floor insulation; i was lead to believe auralex studiofoam was the best way of improving acoustics and soundproofing. im probably wrong though.

one question, to anyone who has used "audiomute" panels, are they applicable to the roof? i need some way to do the ceiling as well and so far they seem to be the cheapest material ive seen yet

I haven't got any experience with "audiomute" panels, but as far as soundproofing goes, remember this: mass, it is all about the mass.

ive almost got a little over half the cracks filled with cardboard and masking tape, it's ghetto but it should do for now at least, would you recommend filling gaps with other material?

If your talking cracks/gaps in the walls, then grab a cpl cans of spray foam. There around $3 a can, expanding foam.

AGREED+1 the spray foam is the most bang for your buck. just apply a little bit and the stuff will expand to completely fill in the hole you need covered. it will be fully expanded and dry in about 5 minutes.

then if the budget says you can, insulate between each stud, then apply Styrofoam or any other desired material on the walls.
