Cool Memorizing drum parts and keeping focused.

Hey guys, i'm new at drumchat and i hope i can get some help to improve my playing. I play the drums for almost 3 years (i have lessons with a teacher) and i can play a lot of difficult grooves and fills. I started learning a few dennis chambers & thommas lang grooves and fills and a steve gadds solo but i have a serious problem of memorizing them. I feel difficult to memorize some very easier stuff like metallica songs and stuff like that and i find it difficult to keep my focus and i allways do mistakes. I practise a couple of easy songs every day for 4 months, i did memorize them and i can play them pretty well but still every time i play the songs i do play something wrong or forget a fill or change the bassline for a half bar or so. I want to start a band and i'm getting a little nervous about it. Can you give me some tips please???

    Welcome to Drum Chat Adccnotbe!

I struggle with the same thing, but DantheDrummer did nail it. I have played guitar longer than I have played the drums, so I do recognize that remembering simply requires that you play it again and again. The other thing that helps the memory is when you get to the place where you are not thinking about your technique, your rudiments, your limb independence, etc. When you become more comfortable with your playing, you will find it easier to memorize drum parts, simply because it becomes your primary focus.

    Welcomme to DC........

The drummers you speak of wont even remember their grooves 100 % , why should you worry about memorizing them . Feel the groove ,get as close as humanly possible and just have fun ......theres my .02
