Where should I put my bass drum mic? And I also want to get that "click" sound that you hear in metal. Any way I could achieve that sound?
I have a crappy starter drum kit

Take a d6 and place it about 1 to 2 inches from the batter head through the port in your drum. cut out the mid htz range with your eq and viola.

Inside the the drum, close to the spot where the beater hits (+/-4"). The click can be added post, but you might be better served by using a hard plastic beater. Also, keep the head fairly slack (loose).

That's what I do. I suppose you could also get one of those Danmar metal kick patches. I think they have aluminium in them?

To get the click i have a perfect 4p solution. get some 2p coins (or if american just large coins) and duct tape to where the beaters hit. Sounds pretyy sweet

Heavely dampen your kick, wood beaters, Damnar aluminum patch. Mic your batter.

fiddle around with your mixer panning and scooping till you get the right levels for your bass mic, which should be close to the beater
