Default German Grip, French Grip and American Grip

Hi, I've been playing with bad technique for a while and need to know how to play all three of these grips. I want to learn all three and see which works best for me. Problem is that I can't find a good instruction on how to use all three grips, especially American. If anyone could provide a very detailed instruction on how to play all these grips (how to hold the stick, how to play with the grip) that would be awesome. Thanks again!

in a nutshell, you have palms down(German), palms facing(French) and 3/4 (American compromise!). Of course the thumb in all three varies with the palm direction.

I just had my first lesson, and we are using the French Grip to show me how the sticks can do most of the work through gravity and rebound, reducing the effort it takes to play. I have no idea whether we will stick with this grip or not, I just know the exercises are working!

So that's what it's called, is it?

I'm always using German grip. Sometimes French, though.

Wes, the grip is still the same. The stick rests into the index finger at the first knuckle, and the pad of the thumb holds it gently in position with the rest of the fingers contacting the stick for support. The real difference in the "grips" then, is simply how the hands are positioned.
