I'm the type of guy that loves jumping into things head first. Though I've only been playing roughly 2 weeks, I'm pretty decent according to other musicians I associate with. I'd love to join a band eventually.

So I'm just curious as to how long you all were drumming before joining or creating one of your own.

I started a "band" in high school, more like a few friends and myself messing around after school, but I was playing for about 5 years at that point. Although I have never been in a real band, when jamming with friends, it was totally fun, and did help me improve.

A.S.A.P! LOL. Really some people got it and others like me take years to get to the point of being able to jam and be comfortable.

I've been playing for about 2 months and I'm in a band, but I also played guitar for 5 years so I am used to jamming already. Just start looking for a band as soon as possible. A good way to get better at playing with other musicians is to actually do it.

    Thanks for the replies!

I'm so anxious to make some music. I'm an audio engineer too, so I have all the recording/mixing/mastering knowledge to handle it all, I just need all the pieces. :-P

I started playing dums when me and a group of friends wanted to make some tunes! so i got in a band almost straight away!

I have been playing for about 1/2 a year now, me and my band are now looking for our first gig.

Good luck with finding a band!

If you can find people that you fit in with then go for it. It will do nothing but make you a bterr player.

    This. ^^^

I had been playing for 2 years before I got into my first garage band. Started with sticks, practice pad and a rudiments workbook. After a while I got a snare, still working on rudiments/reading music. Then I got me "Beater" kit.

We played in my garage...no vocalist, and most of the time the bassist couldn't make it either. But it was fun. Our entire set list consisted of Enter Sandman, Man In the Box and Symphony of Destruction..LOL Yes...over and over and over again!

    Ah...good times!

cant say I remember but I do remember that I was about 14, sick of playing to tapes (yeh I said tapes) and I talked my best friend and his brother into taking guitar lessons so we could start a band...who needs bass right? *facepalm*

anyway they started taking lessons and the younger brother picked it up instantly, kid was amazing, within a year he's shreddin the guitar battle from crossroads (steve vai & Ry cooder) we played together for a little while and then they ended up moving about 2 hrs away.

a little while later I joined another band with a couple friends of mine, we were horrible to put it nicely but we did manage to play one really bad gig. somehow I talked this bar owner into letting us play there. All of our friends showed up but these friends were all into hardcore and most were straightedge...yeh nothin like a mosh pit on the dance floor of some podunk bar. first song our guitarist breaks a string and we're all standing there trying to figure out what to do until he can fix his guitar...ohh yeh good times.

after that I quit playin for about 15 yrs and just started playing again 6 months ago, we started another band but this time we're much better lol
