I've played my kick offset for 20 years it just feels natural and very comfortable
Ergonomically, it makes sense. When you sit down and set your feet out in front of you, they don't point straight out front. They go off to either side. by moving the kick to the right and the toms to the left, you get a more naturally playable configuration.
I am hooked and never going back. Unfortunately, it usually does take some new hardware, and some getting used to. I see this as becoming the new standard set-up.

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!

Here's my pride and joy...
Well I tried posting in "show off your drums" thread... either this site is super slow at updating (I say this because between registering and activation was almost a whole week!!!) or something went wrong... I had it all typed out too, now I'm mad and lazy. hahaha
Anyway I am new and since I've had to wait so long to post I just want to say this seems like a great community!

Beautiful pics of the kit i420piate, and welcome to Drum Chat!
Sorry about the lag time in getting registered, but there has been a title wave of new people signing up in recent weeks. The administration works hard to keep scammers and spammers out of here, so each registration gets checked out and approved, rather than just being automatic. You'll find out that it really is worth the wait, because Drum Chat is very different from most other drum forums. We really get to know and respect each other, and there is a lot of knowledge being shared around here. If you have any problems, just let any of the moderators know and we'll be happy to help you out.

Well, lemme 'splain: The Paiste "flat ride" above is a prototype I found at my local drum shop here in the Bay Area. It's basically a Rude-style flat ride cymbal. I, like a lot of other frugal types I'm sure, have a thing for those prototypes. They are essentially Paiste's "factory 2nds", and are much cheaper than your average Paiste. I was pretty impressed with the flat ride, picking it up on a lark, I tried it in a recording (where pic was taken) and it blended very well overall, somewhat surprisingly. If I can remember which track it was, I'll post it later.
The previous owner of the Thumper Customs/Yamahas did all that work to them. I would like to make my own changes, but the main thing about that kit is I have two kick drums - 18" and 20" diameters - that I can inter-change based on the gig/room. I haven't tried using both at once yet, but am waiting for the right opportunity!
Now, I got a nice pic of the plasma, but forgot to post my vintage monster Ludwig kit, outfitted with a couple Giant Beats, Signature, and more prototypes:

Here is a pic with the new snare, and I have off set the ride toms just a bit. The 12" tom is now directly over the bass, with the 10" off to the left and the ride cymbal just to the right of the bass. It feels pretty good.
