    Default Inventory update

To say I've been busy and away from social media sites more than being on them is an understatement.

I have been buying and selling like it's going out of style. I have nothing that I had a year ago. Nothing.

What I have now are the following:

Yamaha 4 pc MCA in Red Sparkle
22" BD, 15" FT, 12" MT, 10" MT 14" Silver Sparkle MCA Snare drum

Ludwig 3 pc Maple Custom Jazzette bop kit in Blue Sparkle
    18" BD, 14" FT, 12" MT, 14" matching snare

Ludwig Club Date 3 pc in Blue Sparkle
    22"BD, 16" FT, 13" MT 14" Supraphonic snare

Premier Turquoise stained wood grain 5 pc kit
    22" BD, 16" HT, 14" HT, 12" MT, 10" MT

and last but not least my birthday preset that I just got this week...

Pearl Masters 3 pc in Bombay Gold Sparkle
    22" BD, 16" FT, 12" MT

Pictures to follow with any success.

As far as playing out...I'm performing in a band that plays casinos exclusively. No more schlepping gear and being away for 8 - 10 hours. The casinos pay way better than bars, too.

Hit the casino employee entrance. Sign in. Get a badge. Go to the dressing room and drop off our play clothes. Head to the stage for a sound check. All gear is provided for me. I use DW or Pearl depending on the casino. The casino runs the sound and lights and give us the time frames for each set. We normally play 3 one hour sets, pack up any personal gear, go sign out and head home. I basically carry a stick bag and set list. While we are at the sound check we receive dinner vouchers. After sound check we go have dinner and then back to the dressing room awaiting the stage call. I'm usually home before midnight.

The kit is awesome. It's all vintage but I've put some mods on it. The 16" isn't original. It has been refurbed and I bought it that way. Has the white interior and re-rings. I have the original lugs and legs but opted for the newer Atlas hardware to match my bop kit. What's awesome is it didn't require me to drill any new holes. Same on the 13" mounted tom. I bought an INDe nodrill mount and it fit the original holes perfectly. The bass drum took a bit of a bigger hit. I put a tom tree where an original small mount was so that center hole is bigger than factory and the mount required four new holes. It now sports an Atlas tom tree for multiple purposes.

All in all every drum has the beloved Keystone badge which I find totally cool.

You can see the mods here. If you are still interested we can discuss a deal.

Sorry I missed your important questions. lol

The kick is 14" or 16" deep. I'll measure tonight and report back. Great low end and thump to no end.

Casino gigs are funny until you understand the way THEY work it. This band that I'm in now (just about a year) had a different drummer and keyboardist. When they would go play the drummer would have to take his electric drums and create chaos for the venue since they had to remove the back line and reset everything for his ekit. Same with the keyboardist. He would have to bring in everything he owns and after all the set up and sound check, it was like a regular bar gig. The casino wanted nothing to do with that so they weren't asked back.

We have been working to get that gig back and once we were prepared we approached the manager and told him we were back and better than ever. Our first gig was in May and from there we were asked to play both the casinos he's responsible for. One is here in town and the other is about an hour and a half away. We have two gigs left for this year. One is on Thanksgiving night and the other is an early new years party. We will play from 5:30 until 8 PM. How great is that?

I guess the bottom line is you need to know someone that works at the casino to get your foot in the door. After that, they either like you or they don't.

Plus our set list has lots of variety. 60's on up and popular country included. Everything from Beatles to Ted Nugent.

    One more thing about casinos.

They have a built in crowd. There is always a ton of people there.

Around here bands have been docked by the bar owner if they don't bring in an expected number of audience participants. The casinos have a contract and we always get paid before we perform.

A few weeks back after accumulating all the Ludwig gear (everything is less than 6 months old to me) I decided to go monster kit. Here's the results of merging the bop kit and Club Date into one bigger kit.

And here you can see how the 16" matches the new 14" Maple Custom. So many varieties to setting up the perfect kit. lol

Here's the bass drum right after I received it. You can see that tiny mount on top of the bass drum that wouldn't hold anything I have. I did keep the original parts except the legs.

Here's the original legs that came with it.

I chose to replace those with Atlas spurs.

So I have modded the BD a lot.

I also added a small mod to the 13" MT. It came with a diamond shaped spade mount for which I can not locate a usable spade anywhere. So I opted for the INDe mount which required no drilling.

This turned out better than I could have expected.

    20211115_104650 (1).jpg

I used two of the four original mounting screws to fill the vacant holes left by the diamond mount.
