Pretty funny. They called up"let it rain". Told them sure, Jim Gordon's one of my favorite. We were in Atascadero. Jim's 3 miles away, in Atascadero State Hospital!

The finish looks great. I haven’t seen many flat rides. Cool

It’s an 18” K Custom flat ride. Earl Palmer cited them as being his favorite ride. I use it a lot!

Thanks Red! Thinned the herd down to three kits now. Got tired of moving them around the garage.

That is a Zildjian K Custom 21 Trash Crash.

Its almost like a china cymbal but with more sustain. Its a great accent cymbal.

INDIGlo, your kit is gorgeous! I'm surprised they classify that finish as a duco instead of a burst. I've always seen ducos as having more abrupt borders and dividing the drum more into even thirds.
I use a similar set up to #2 but maybe even more offset. I want my ride in a natural relaxed position while still having my beloved 8" on hand.
Zack, I know your OCD dictates the more uniform and straight alignment for the eyes, and I agree #1 is more symmetrical, but comfort first for me.

I've tried placing my 8 inch up and off to the side like #2 or as I refer to it the "Neil Peart" style and for me that wasn't comfortable.
I didn't like reaching past and over my hi-hat

Either way I would love to get behind this kit! hahaha

    Bob,

I custom ordered the kit through Jason at Forks Drum Closet. I sent pictures of what i wanted. And yes, the "duco" finish usually means a much more defined transition from the dark to the light back to dark. I specifically said i did not want that. I wanted a soft fade. I got exactly what i wanted. I was nervous that Gretsch would just do a traditional duco but there was a lot of back and forth communication with Gretsch prior to starting the order to make absolutely sure I got what i wanted.

After much debate with what feels the most comfortable and natural i have decided this is the most efficient drum placement. My only issue with this setup is i am so use to having a 12" or 13" directly in front of me and now i have an 8" and 10" right in front. Since the drum right in front of you is where you land most of the time during a fill i had to tune the pitch of the entire kit down a bit to make it sound feel better.

Now my only issue is the ride cymbal. I've always had my ride cymbal down low sitting just above my floor tom. And historically my ride cymbal has been over the bass drum on the right side (absent a tom being there). So i'm trying to decide if the ride cymbal being up high feels goofy or i can get use to it. We form habits over our years of playing and when you instinctively go for a space for a crash or ride or splash and its not there any more you have to retrain your muscle memory. What do you guys think about the efficiency of having the ride cymbal up high or down in the traditional location?

I ordered the kit on December 8th. It came in last weekend. It was about 4 weeks sooner than I had anticipated. Gretsch originally said 12-14 weeks.

    Specs:

    16 x 22 Bass Drum
    7 x 8 Tom
    7 x 10 Tom
    8 x 12 Tom
    9 x 13 Tom
    12 x 14 Floor Tom
    14 x 16 Floor Tom
    6.5 x 12 (20 lug snare)
